The Great Indian Politics

November 19th 2007 04:35
Politics is not something that is discussed extensively at the thousands of “Chouk”,spread over all across India now. There has been gradual shift of intensity in recent years because the importance of local political activists have diminished. There are some states where only people of dubious characters are seen politicking. The student politics has been completely hijacked by the spoilt rich brats and their associate, mostly muscle men known for their criminal records.

The good thing however is that the local affairs are being given more attention now.Sensing the changed mood and preference,News Papers have been forced to change their marketing and Circulation strategy.Almost all the News Papers have started now multiple edition and they subcategories that too district wise.Television Broadcasters have woken up too and very soon there will be numerous Local Television Station .NDTV realized this too and has started “Metro Nation”as the first initiative in that direction.Sahara Group ,T.V.Today Group and Zee Group have already started local Television Stations.

There are more than 250 Local Television Station in the USA which are very popular for their interactive features.

The Zee Group in India tried to push this initiative through “Citi Channel” and the response was very encouraging. Many of its city specific channel became very popular initially even though the quality of content and broadcasting was not professional grade.Hinduja Promoted "In cable net" also introduced local programming in various cities. These Companies failed to capitalize their initial successes they met primarily because they succumbed to the advice of marketing junkies who pressed for the network expansion and up-gradation at the cost of content augmentation.Had they concentrated upon the content and quality broadcasting then they would need not start a fresh again now, which are they planning to do again.

Sahara Media and E Tv started numerous channels for specific states without much preparation and as a result have not been able to establish their foot hold.NDTV seems to have noticed the mistakes made and as a result it is more or less certain to succeed.

In the News Paper segment Dainik Jagran took the north India by storm.Even without any prominent journalist on its pay roll,it managed to corner such a large readership because it concentrated upon the requirements and taste of its readers.

The politics is discussed at Chouck even now but it is mostly Panchayat Politics.Panchayat has suddenly become the nerve centre of rural India.Money are pouring in and there are various works related to one scheme or other being carried out. This development has made tectonic shift in attitude of the people.Like Participatory Journalism, they are happy to be the part of Participatory Politics now. They feel empowered and are enjoying that too.

Indian Communists Unravelled !

November 14th 2007 06:17
Mikhail Gorbachev had initiated Perestroika and Glasnost more than a decade back which resulted in the fragmentation of the erstwhile USSR.Many countries realised after decades of experimentation that Karl Marks and his Utopian ideals were non implementable so ,most of the east European countries dumped it and started to rebuild themselves in the unipolar world. Some countries like Cuba,Venezuela and China however did not jettison the concept completely and adopted Capitalism with a Communist face. Indian communists on the other hand remained static in their thought and kept preaching and practising the same old ideas until Buddhdeva Bhattacharya tried perestroika like experiment in West Bengal.Mr.Bhattacharya, realizing the hollowness of the mere "lofty ideals", tried to ape the pragmatic approach of Chinese communists but, unfortunately, his moves seem to have boomeranged and after the Nandigram violence, he stands aloof , alone, dejected, condemned, and belittled.But,Mr.Bhattacharya has also won the admiration of thousands of people for his courage and conviction. The landscape of Calcutta has changed since he took over and the day is not far when the city would regain its lost glory of being the 'cultural and intellectual capital' of India.

The news emanating from Nandigram is horrifying; armed comrades forcibly evicting the opposition political workers from their base; taking over the role of policing and patrolling of the vast area; blocking media persons from entering the area; obstructing even the deployment of the Central Reserve Police and indulging in mayhem, violence, arson and murderous activities. These facts have opened the Pandora's box and soon other methods employed by Left Parties to maintain their stronghold will be scrutinised and many startling facts would be revealed to expose the Communists which might lead to the extinction of their current process and methodologies.

BJP has been engaged in behind-the scene war of a different kind with the Communists for decades now.Congress, fearing that the BJP would make huge strides, has sided with the Communists at the cost of forfeiting West Bengal.

After Independence, India chose to adopt the Socialist model of development and numerous institutions propagating that philosophy sprung up everywhere. Most of these institutions were government funded but Comrades invariably sneaked into these and took control over them.Be it JNU ,Planning Commission,or any other institution of repute,Communists coloured them 'Red'. Even the books and journals procured by Indian libraries were decided by the comrades.Slowly, all the intellectual space was occupied by them and Congress was left with only running the day-to-day affairs of the government. BJP tried to unshackle the stronghold but was misinterpreted by media, that coincidentally, is filled with the people of the same school of thought.

BJP might have indulged in perverse distortion of the facts but the primary focus of the party was to undo the Communists' influence from the academic curriculum. After the formation of the UPA government at the centre, Left parties regained whatever they had lost and started to rebuild the labyrinth of web according to new political reality.

Buddhdeva Bhattacharya might be hounded by his conscience because he pushed for development but his own party failed him.Opposition was too unkind and garnered the support from unexpected quarters too.Goons were used to counter communist party workers and it is alleged that the ferocity, lethality and determination shown by the protesters opposing the comrades is not characteristic of ordinary Nandigram citizens. It is also alleged that communal card was used to flare up the whole opposition.Though, for political correctness, no one is coming out in the open accusing that aspect of strategy adopted by some opposition parties.

Whatever be the outcome of this agitation, one thing is clear - the decline of the last bastion of Communists has begun.

October 6th 2007 09:00
The hired goons of HSBC INDIA, seems to have been instructed by the bank authorities to terrorise, abduct or kill the customer who ask for the bill which he did not receive for the past two years.Even though she had paid four times the sum overdue to him,eri temerity to ask for the bill has led hem in soup and Hsbc recovery agents are are threatening over phone to kill her or abduct her kid.A patient of high blodpressure, the whole family is scared to death.
Can any bank kill anyone outside India as well?
Banks authorities should be held accountable if any harm is meted out to her family.

75 % of road accidents in the country are owed to the 7% of the city roads. Road rage is a common occurrence in Delhi, infact so common that the common man fails to stand up and take notice, the media fails to draw detailed debate on the issue and the government is still wrapped up in its insensitive slumber.

The injured were being treated at several hospitals in Hyderabad. the condition of at least 10 was said to be serious. Two unexploded bombs were recovered hours after the blasts - one at Mosarambagh and another at Dilsukhnagar.. So powerful was the blast that some of bodies were flung into the air and scattered over the area.Hyderabad Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh said the toll at Lumbini Park may go up as it was teeming with week-end crowd.According to the Police the bombs were all attached to timers and evidence collected so far indicated that it was a well-planned terrorist operation.

No outfit has claimed responsibility for the blasts, but intelligence sources said they bore the handiwork of a Bangladesh-based Islamic militant group known as the Harkat-ul Jehad-i-Islami.The group, led by Mohammed Abdul Shahid alias Bilal, was also believed to be responsible for the blasts at the Mecca mosque in Hyderabad in May
