Increase your AdSense earnings

March 21st 2007 03:25
Here in the Orble labs, after months of intensive research , we have developed a blog layout which increases your earnings from AdSense by anything from 20% to 100%. The average improvement is around 75%.

Basically it removes the ad banner from across the top of the blog and places the ads within the text of each post. This format won't be for everyone, however most popular blogs and news sites now use a similar layout.

To choose this format click on the Modify link for your blog, scroll down to Choose a Format for your Blog and choose the Ads in Text option.

Ads will then be automatically placed within the text of each post, usually between two paragraphs.

If you want to manually select where the ads should be shown put the tag ADVERT (with square brackets around it) in the text of your post at the point where you would like the ads to appear.

At the moment if the post is long enough, up to two ads can be placed in each post. For best performance place the first ad a few paragraphs from the top, and the second post about 4 or 5 paragraphs further down. Directly underneath pictures also seems to work well.

As always post any questions below.

Jon.

Jon,

Sounds good to me. Will try it, before fiddling around too much with placements.

gah, I just flipped it on and changed it back, looks waaaaay too ugly in between text. I'm going to just use the advert tag from now on so I can place them in tactical locations, that won't get in the way of the actual article, at least not too much...

I thought the automatic placement was not too bad You need the ads to kind of "get in the way" for it to work. Like I said, it may not be ideal for everyone.

You can generally improve things with the ADVERT tag though.

Also, the ADVERT tag only works with the "Ads in Text" format for the moment. I guess this could be changed.

well I'll turn it back on and see how it goes.

Not much difference between 30 cents and 40 cents

Yea, I kinda agree with Ahmed. A bit ugly. However it's a great feature and I would love to be able to use the ADVERT-tag without having the "Ads in Text" on.

Thanks,

does anyone have an example of a post that uses this function?

Hi Jon,

thanks for the info... but between the text?

Oh Come on...

it's bad enough at the end of the post, as it is...otherwise I agree with Filmpeeker, to be able to use the tag without "in Text" mode is optimal.

Appreciate the effort,

Lilla ...

PS still waiting for an independant Environmental Category?

Jon, I think the Google ads might look better if they're ad units like on this page:

I tried it, but switched back. Not only is it horrible on poetry, but in the few pieces I've marked as "mature content", instead of an ad, there's just a huge blank space and the "mature content" tag in place of the ad.

Comment by jon

March 22nd 2007 00:13
Wendi -- good point about the mature content, I'll fix that.

Cibby -- I could add wide ads like that as another format option. Perhaps a SMALLADVERT tag as well. You may be better off sticking with the old format though.

Lilla -- You don't have to use the format I said it would not be for everyone. I've added an Environment channel for you.

Using the ADVERT tag without the "Ads in Text" format is a good idea. I'll let everyone know when it's working.

I'm also wondering about text wrapping... since the ads are bulky boxes, they'd be more pleasing to the eye if the text was wrapped rather than separated by the ad.

March 22nd 2007 01:37
yes, we demand aesthetics now!

From my dealings with google ads (like the mafia almost) I know there are a variety of shapes and sizes available per advert which helps line them up with text and stuff, the 468*60 ads are exceptionally flexible.

So perhaps we can have advert1 advert2 each with different dimensions.

Can anyone tell me if AdSense costs money? I think I would have made money on a few things but Im too scared to enable it in case it costs me something!
Can you have some posts with ads in text and some posts with it in the banner? Or is that just too much clicking?

Comment by Ahmed

March 22nd 2007 02:25
umm, adsense doesn't cost you any money...

is there any way I can check how much money my adsense has made so far? I'm yet to see a single red cent from them.

btw, the new formatting is kind of helping actually, I am getting two clicks from it now instead of just one.

I'm glad you mentioned this jon, I was starting to wonder why Google was having a party in the middle of my postings without inviting me.

Now I have the answers in hand Oh Wise One.

I agree it looks ugly as well but as it's been running a little while like this with me not having a clue so far we'll see what sort of difference, if any, it makes. ; )

Comment by jon

March 22nd 2007 09:17
Melissa -- looking at the AdSense stats we have for Fun Facts, you have about a 90% increase in revenue due to the change in format. That's comparing the period from the 1st to the 15th of March to the period from the 17th to today. The change in format was introduced to Fun Facts as part of the trial in the middle of the 16th so we have not counted that day. I'm willing to bet quite a lot that your adsense stats will show a similar increase.

Again to stress that this format will not be for everyone. You do not have to use it if you don't want to.

Comment by Filmpeeker

March 22nd 2007 09:37
Hey Jon, I understand it's not for everyone, but with 90% increase it should be.

However that is only possible if it looks good, and there are ways to make it look good. Like have the option to wider ads that don't seem weird in short posts etc (like Cib said)... A [SMALLAD]-tag would be perfect.

I know you're working in full speed and appreciate what I see.

Good luck,

filmpeeker

Hey all,

I say get on the AdSense bandwagon, because in the last month or so, my stats are going through the roof. I have never been consistently in the TOP 10 Google writers until the past fortnight, and I can tell you that I am forming a nice little Google kitty in my account - to be precise, my stats for the month to date stand at

22,908 page impressions
415 clicks

for a final total of over $200.00 - thats since I signed up in late January - not bad for a hobby!

Just wondering, is this a AUD value or a US value - I am being greedy here, hoping that my total figure will be converted to AUD!!

Cheers,

StephenP

I'm giving it another go... I went in to Abstract Magick this morning and edited all of the poetry, placing the ads at the top and bottom so as not to disrupt the flow of the poem. Being able to choose where to place the ads is helpful. It doesn't seem too bad in the other posts, but I thought I'd give it a fair try.

All google figures are in USD, I believe, so you're actually sitting on ~ $240.. google will now direct deposit into your australian bank account, too..

Hey Cibby,

Not sure which posts are attracting the most hits, but Friday, saturday and Sunday have been my biggets days - obviously being footy season!

As I no longer work for the Titans, and the fat that they dont place match reports on their website until 2 days after the game, I have being placing links in the Titans forums for members to read the match reports - when I was working for them, I was finding that my blog would have reports on the ne before most of the other big media companies - AAP, Fox Sports, Sportal, NRL.com.

Maybe this could be the increase in traffic, but I have a pretty high ranking with Google too!

Cheers,

StephenP

Just my thoughts, but shouldnt mature content get MORE ads? I mean, if your mature content connected to some porn wouldnt we all get like a million hits? I dont mind randy guys reading my blog if I get paid for it! Even if it does connect 'the wolf poems' to 'wet and wild beasts'!

filmpeeker, don't get too excited about a 90% increase, we're still only talking a handful of cents here. ; )

Thanks for that feedback though Jon, as Adsense is only NONsense to me.

This is what happens with Quazen, another site I write pieces on. It can be a bit irritating, but in general, since the page is lathered with ads anyway, I don't think it makes much difference. And it would be good to see a slight improvement on the couple of dollars I've made since I've been using adsense.

Comment by Filmpeeker

March 25th 2007 11:46
Hey Melissa!

90% is 90%. For you it might be cents for others dollars.

I look forward to be able to use the ADVERT-tag independently though.

I have a question that may or may not relate to this...

for the last couple of weeks when I make a post I've noticed that extra gaps appear between paragraphs... are these for the ads to go in? I only just realised that this is what these gaps could be for... I've been deleting these gaps after previewing my posts because they just seemed to be gaps.

Anyway, if it has nothing to do with adsense, is there anyway to fix it so these gaps don't keep randomly appearing?

I have the same problem Luke... Don't know what they are for, but still don't think it's too ugly. Adds a bit white space which lightens up the place. Of course if it's a bug it should be fixed though.

I've been having the Google ads show up in my blogs for the last few days. The idea is okay, but I think there's far too much white space around them. It interrupts any flow in the blog itself, and often makes it look as though what you're saying is finished after the first section. Can the white space be reduced?

I am definitely seeing improvement in the Adsense account (increasing cents each day) after shifting to this new format. Still not able to quantify it in Percent terms.

Thanks for the format

Hello guys,
I have chosen 'Single Column Right - ads in text' in my Blog Format settings, but still i can't see any ads in the body of my posts.
I also tried inserting [ADVERT] into the body text of the post but it still didn't show up any ads.
My blog at: www.storiesofwisdom.com
Can anyone explain why? Any troubleshooting?
(And of course my Adsense i suppose is working right, it has been generating me some cash for months from my blog there)
