In the Morning

Auguste Rodin (Morning)
Birth...
Were I to call it anything
Less would be damning...
There she sat...
Sculpted from marble
Skin smooth and tone
Glittering and welcoming
a new day
Birth...
On her knees
Bent she rose
Body naked before
My unworthy eyes
There in that perfected
“S” contour showing
The her... a model of beauty
No... a model of greatness
In her simple position
On display for all the world
To see
My heart did not skip
Nay
I felt it all to well
Pounding in my chest
Wanting to leap out
And be at her feet
So that she could
Rise to my love
At her knees
How the light cast shadows upon her body
Only to add depth to her
Firm yet gentile features
Even as I watched her
I was scared to stop and write
For fear that every feature
From the shallow navel
To the crossed legs
Might slip away in some
Ungodly moment
Even now
Do my hands shake
My breathing become
Labored as I try to recount
Such magnificence
To think of all the love
And caring that went into creating
Such an honor to God
And man
Who knows...
Truly... Birth
Birth...
Were I to call it anything
Less would be damning...
There she sat...
