CRUCIFIX ORCHID

NAME: Crucifix orchid or Epidendrum

GROWING TIPS: These plants originating from central America would have to be one of the easiest orchids to grow. They prefer a sheltered sunny position away from heavy frosts. Ideally they should be kept moist in a well drained soil for the summer months and let dry out for the colder winter months The plants stay in good condition if cut back to about 100mm of its base after flower head has completely finished. If left alone and not cut back the stems will send out aerial growths from near the top, I remove these and pot them up. These plants are also suitable for container growing, they come in a variety of colours from, red, orange, lavender, yellow, pink, rose fuschia, purple or white.

They are starting to flower in my garden at the moment. Anyone wanting some autumn colour with out to much fuss should give these a go.
