In The Case Of a Nuclear Attack

Hi everyone;
With all of this talk of other counrties having hidden nuclear weapons I have been thinking about what we would do if a nuclear bomb was dropped on us.
I do know that we did posess weapons that were designed for the pupose of shooting down any nuclear weapon aimed at the country before it had a chance to hit ground. We haven't heard a anything about it for quite some time. And with all of the talk of other countries possessing nuclear weapons, I wonder how many we have stashed away. They tell us we don't have any, but don't they all say the same thing?
I know that the devistation would be horrible.
Those at ground zero would be immediately incinerated, and those even a few miles from the blast would have severe radiation burns. Others, within a larger radius would become ill with radiation poisoning and many would eventually die. We would see other effects on the health of people worsen as time went by. Even too many x-rays can render us infertile, I shudder to think what this would do.
I remember reading that Albert Einstein was sickened and saddened, after he introduced his Theory of Relativity, that those in power used it to create the nuclear bomb. Something so wonderful and enlightening, used to destroy human beings. Do not forget, in war most of those destroyed are innocent of any wrongdoing and are much like you and I.
Until 9/11, we were pretty much protected from the devistation that most countries have experienced first hand. It is just not possible for all people to get along. We can't even get along within our own country. Look at the murders, gangs and crime. Women and children are not safe to go anywhere alone. All in all, we are not as civilized as we think.
