Proscratination - the dreaded word
December 5th 2008 03:58
How many of you find that no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you prepare yourself to remain focused, no matter what level of determination level you endure at some point, when attempting to put in a solid day working (studying) you find yourself succumbing to the distractions surrounding you and...the dreaded word...procrastination.
(What a mouthful!)
I for one, can admit more often than I sometimes like to, find myself changing over from study to 'leisure'. However, I often pschylogically justify these actions. Well, I like to think I do. One example...I feel one needs to balance work and play, another, I am a journalism student, I should be aware of new media, what is going on...'nose for news' they say. So news may just stem from somewhere other than what I'm reading at the time.
My main distraction from study is food. Be it going to the shop to buy something I need, thinking of meals for the day and the week ahead, searching recipes on the internet, reading a cookbook instead of a text book, then going to prepare for cooking and so on it goes. Admittedly it is these such thoughts and actions which deter me from certain tasks which I may be a little less enthusiatic about at the time.
But each to their own, everyone has something else they would rather be doing or thinking about when they do not want to be doing the intended task. However, contradicting this, when I need to or am in 'the mood' I can stay focused for long period of time. I do seem to find a lot of what I am doing (studying) of interest anyway.
