I'm pretty darn thankful

I have some reason, today, and every other day after this great and irrelevant holiday to feel thankful. I no longer am suffering from the murderous bug that is often called The Flu! Which is a relief all in itself. But also, despite the extreme bitter cold I am enjoying the fact that my life is looking up.
I first realized that there really isn't anything in my life that is overly oppressive or depression causing. How bad could it be, other than the fact that I have to ride Detroit city buses on the daily, I have no major bills, a college education, two very interesting jobs, and a cozy little room in my parents home, not to mention a nice little man-friend that doesn't mind if I stop by every now and crack a few jokes. Life is good, so far. But, I have goals. And with goals come obligations and obstacle.
So with all of my thankfulness I take precaution of what is to come. And I think that this is the downfall of so many of my people. And by "my people" I don't just mean black people, I mean recent college graduates, young people, single women and damn near any other demographic I would fall under. We set so many goals that we only dwell on them. The lessons in life aren't learned from the destination, but from the journey to our fateful end. So what do we need to do...band together, plan wisely, take a small course in time management. Not at all. How about, pay attention. Take notes from the situations of others. They say that you should always learn from your mistakes, maybe you can learn from the mistakes and choices of others. Women, if you see a woman wearing the most horrible outfit you and everyone else have seen in their whole entire lives, you aren't going to go out the day after Thanksgiving and buy it. Are you? Ofcourse not! So why didn't all of the African American people in the country go out and start savings accounts after Katrina left so many of our people with nothing and no way to get anything else? Because everyone is so focused, they lack the idea that maybe we are all in this together, all traveling the same roads, at different times, but still, the same roads.
I'm thankful, today, for this lesson learned. I had the opportunity to play the game of Life, I finished last. But oddly enough, I won.
God bless people and be thankful, not just for yourself, your accomplishments, but for everything and everyone, because if they weren't there, where would you be?
