Why I'm A Vegetarian
August 22nd 2008 00:18
I don't eat meat except for twice a year on Daddy's birthday and the anniversary of his death (although I did a couple of days ago because I can barely eat anything. Yay for sore gums turning me anorexic *nod*). I eat fish and dairy. But I won't touch eggs. Here are some of the reasons why I'm veg. I'm going to skip the Meet Your Meat video. Let's just say that apparently animal cruelty laws don't count for food. Especially not hens that lay eggs. *Shudder* *Sick to her stomache*
Here are some links:
Really Long Link
In short, 'cause it saves water and is actually great for the environment. I also am strongly against animal cruelty. But today we're looking at environmental stuff.
Did you know: if all the food produced to feed animals was used to feed humans instead, we could feed about 15 billion people. (That said it WOULD help if birth control was wide spread and free, yup. Then we wouldn't be overpopulating the world so much to begin with.)

This one is more detailed on how they came to their decision.
If every rich person in the world ate no meat for one week out of the year, well... good stuff would happen. Can't remember that statistic.
Did you know: local is better than organic for the environment-and meat is made in factory farms, which are cruel and the word 'factory' is bad for the environment. Transporting the food is also horrible for the environment, and that doesn't help matters much, does it?
This link wasn't worth it, but here's a quote from Dr. Something Or Other with his spiffy PhD in something:
“The way that we breed animals for food is a threat to the planet. It pollutes our environment while consuming huge amounts of water, grain, petroleum, pesticides and drugs. The results are disastrous.”
The rest of the links I saw weren't worth my time, either. I didn't think so, at least. I like the environment. I like farmer's markets. I don't like wasting food. I like energy conserving light bulbs. I like solar power. Would like it more if I could afford it *nod*. I don't like factory farming. I don't like pesticides. I don't like wasting water. I don't like to see animals horribly mistreated just so that humans can eat. (Don't like humans very much to begin with.)
I'm not saying 'vegetarian is the only way'. Hell, I've dated guys that ate meat. I've never dated a vegetarian guy, actually. Most of my family eats meat (makes my life a bit tricky but oh well) and I used to eat meat, too. I have plenty of friends who aren't vegetarian. (And a number of friends who look at me funny when I remind them that I am.)
I'm just pointing out some facts about why I'm vegetarian. This is what you get. You're stuck with it 'cause you're stuck with me and every now and again I feel like talking about what I believe in. If you don't like it, don't read it.
Thank you -.-
