I remember childhood - Part Three - Holiday Fun & School Days

June 20th 2010 18:40
This is Part Three of an absolutely personal, indulgent & really long list! I have been feeling down lately and compiled these random events & items from my past to cheer myself up. Now, I feel wistful. Like most children, I couldn't wait to grow up and do what I wanted when I wanted and not have anyone tell me what to do all the time! - As grown-up, I realize that idea was highly overrated.

Feel free to share any of your long forgotten favorite memories

Holiday fun:

Christmas tree decorating
Not being able to fall asleep on Christmas eve

Coming downstairs in the wee hours Christmas morning & looking at all the wrapped presents and falling asleep down there

lit christmas tree presents

Dancing and singing to Christmas music
Easter egg coloring & Easter egg hunts
Family get-togethers with all the cousins
Twirling and waving sparklers on the Fourth of July

fireworks sparklers

Halloween trick or treating in a ghost costume, aka a white sheet
or a “Hobo” in your Dad’s oversized clothes.
Dumping my pillowcase of candy on the floor and seeing what I scored!

Birthday parties

School:

Buying new clothes for the new school year.
First day of school butterflies in your tummy
Waiting for the yellow school bus at the bus stop

Cafeteria lunch food - mini-milk cartons & new potatoes
Climbing the rope to the top of the gym and ringing the bell
Crossing guards

Red rubber playground balls a little larger than a volleyball
Passing notes
