I Remember Childhood - Part Four - In the House/Family Stuff & Food
June 24th 2010 02:26
This is Part Four of an absolutely personal, indulgent & really long list! I have been feeling down lately and compiled these random events & items from my past to cheer myself up. Now, I feel wistful. Like most children, I couldn't wait to grow up and do what I wanted when I wanted and not have anyone tell me what to do all the time! - As grown-up, I realize that idea was highly overrated.
Feel free to share any of your long forgotten favorite memories
In the house/family stuff:
Shag carpeting & wallpaper
Walking on my older sister's back cause she asked me to
Stick and sock puppets - putting on a show for your parents
Hide and seek
Not bothering to look in the mirror before I went out to play
Not having time to comb your hair and not caring & my Mom combing out the knots in my hair and threatening to cut it short while I slept
“Walking” on your Dad’s feet while he held your hands
Pretending I could play the piano and making up really bad songs
Writing your own play - with you as the main character, of course
Learning “ the twist”
Turning over the chairs in the house and draping a blanket over them to create a fort in the house
Pretending you were asleep and being carried in from the car
Riding on your Dad’s shoulder’s
Hiding behind your Mom's skirts
Scooting down the stairs on my bottom
Climbing up the outside part of the stairs and hanging onto the banister
Pretending to throw myself down part of the stairs like a stunt person
Rearranging my room furniture for the fun of it
Boy showing up at the door asking for a date when I was eight!
Being the first person up in the morning and thinking how wierdly quiet it was
Everyone sitting in Mom & Dad’s bed Sunday morning
Helping pulling Mom out of the bed by her feet
The surprise of having your Mom tell you that she isn’t taking you to school and that you are going to spend the day together
Food:
Captain Crunch cereal, Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops & Frosted Flakes
Farina & hot oatmeal
Carnation Breakfast Bars
scrambled eggs & silver dollar pancakes
Eating watermelon in the summer - spitting seeds- watching for seedlings
Milk & cookies: Oreo’s, Nutter Butters & Fig Newtons
My Mom's rice and beans
Slurping single spagetti noodles
Licking the cake batter bowl
Cream Soda
Ding Dongs & Twinkies
Grilled cheese sandwiches
Bazooka gum & reading the jokes on the wrapper
Grandma's pasteles
Ice cream: vanilla ice cream with vanilla bean flecks from my Grandma, Vanilla Orange Creamsicles & double fruit-flavored popsicles on hot summer days, Root Beer Floats at the Hilton Youth Center, square ice cream Scoops from Thrifty's, ice cream birthday cake with chocolate crumbles inside, going to Carvels for ice cream sandwiches & vanilla soft-serve at the beach - No wonder ice cream is my ultimate comfort food!
Eating with no thought of calories, carbs or fat grams!

Thank you for coming by my blog and actually reading my list of memories!
Yes, sometimes my parents would carry me from the car while I feigned sleep but other times they were on to my trick or just too tired to carry me in!
