I remember childhood - Part 1 - Toys, Games & Clothing
June 14th 2010 21:20
This is Part one of an absolutely personal, indulgent & really long list! I have been feeling down lately and compiled these random events & items from my past to cheer myself up. Now, I feel wistful. Like most children, I couldn't wait to grow up and do what I wanted when I wanted and not have anyone tell me what to do all the time! - As grown-up, I realize that idea was highly overrated.
While I have serious doubts that anyone is actually reading this blog, if perchance someone stumbles across this, they are welcome to share any of their long forgotten favorite memories.
I loved:
Toys/Games:
Lincoln Logs - I could play for hours!
Colorforms
My huge Raggedy Andy & a medium Raggedy Ann look-a-like from my Grandma which I would pose against the wall and take pictures so she would look like she was alive and standing on her own
Lite Brite - so sad when you ran out of picture papers
Playdoh - Ugh, I left the lid off!
Mr. Potato Head
Silly Putty
Gumby & Poky
Monopoly & making good trades
Milles Bornes - I need a Roll card!!
Sorry - bump - you were not sorry J
The Game of Life- you could drive a car, get married & have little plastic pink & blue children!
64 crayon box with a built in sharpener - should come with at least 2 black crayons
Connect the dots coloring book pages
Trouble, aka Frustration - C’mon, six or one!
Twister
Gin Rummy
Casino
Toy Cars that ran on stick pulling power
Toy with flying discs that would end up in the neighbors yard
Playing solitaire
Collecting baseball cards - and blowing bubbles with the gum - Willie Mays baseball card- where are you?
Viewmaster
Building and painting a crude dollhouse & feeling very proud
Playing ping-pong in the garage
Clothing/Accessories:
Sneakers
Jean jacket
Bobby pins
Tap shoes
Four-wheeled roller skates
Braids, pony tails & the holders with the two colored balls on the end
Galoshes & rain slickers
Mittens
Colored tights & Mary Janes
Dr Dentons, aka, pajamas with feet
Brownie uniform
Denim jeans
Patches
Corduroys and the sound they made when you walked
Gym shorts & tube socks
Softball uniform
