Working Title - by Hazel Castillo

Just like movies filming... my life has a working title. ss_blog_claim=0495ff3fbd2eb63185104629064ee6a0

I need to rant

oh I so need to.

I don't know how to start, but I'm pretty sure once I do, it's going to be non-stop.

Hmm.. lets start it with a question.

This is going to be about work so I have to be really careful.

Recently, I got a new boss. This boss, i knew of because of other people I knew whom he handled as well. Based on their accounts. He's fine. Our program/account will run fine with him provided we give him all the support. Given that our last boss/manager had too much in his hands that and because me and my partner were running it fine, he mostly forgot his duties in our program, we were eager to get a new manager -- but we still love our previous boss .

So back to the new boss. He's young. He's new as in completely new to the program, still fairly new to the industry in fact. How he got there, I have no idea. I heard he has great interviewing skills.

So our program, being the friendliest (yet deadliest for the lazy slackers -- haha) program in the building, welcomed him thinking he needs a lot of help and we're all willing to help him achieve his goals, as long as we're seeing eye to eye.

Turns out.. we don't. We don't see eye to eye both physically (i'm only 5'6" and nothing's on my eye level when we're facing each other. go figure his height ) and professionally.

He was a show off on his first 2 weeks. Busily listening in on calls, talking to our frontliners and management team. He really made us believe he'd be someone good for the program.

Soon, we're beginning to realize the reason he's doing all these focused group discussions and what nots is because he's too lazy to actually get in on the action. In short, he doesn't want to really work. He believes because our program has been up for since the company started and it hasn't gone down nor did it look like it will go down, it'll take care of itself. Sure, it will coz me and my partner together with our teams will not let this program go down. We've been here since it started. We actually care about the program and its people.

A month has gone by and me, my partner and two other colleagues started bringing up to him problems we cannot handle on our level, things he'll need to bring up to upper management. HE, started to be defensive..

His points were:
- have only been with this program for about a month.
- ergo, my learnings are only at about 1% (ugh, you can't believe how much my eyes rolled lol)
- I need a lot of help from everyone on trying to understand and learn the program (which we have relentlessly been giving..)
and last.. but definitely the WORST
- I haven't been receiving the salary for my level.

sheesh.

Funny, I've only been on the program for what? 60 months, yet people regard me and my partner as the veterans of this program. If he's only at 1% after a month.. what, he needs 100 months to get to 100%?! I thought you only needed 30-90 days to learn something new?

Now I found out, his former boss (another of his kind...) told him that this program is easy, you only have to win the people, particularly (according to the boss) -- me!

Modesty aside, my partner and I have been with the program from the start, we started at the bottom -- as the frontliners and worked our way up. The only reason none of us has gone that high is because we're both parents and we both prioritize our families more than our careers. Simple as that.

People also know that we are veterans of this program. As for me in particular, I'm the go-to boss when anything needs clarifications, decisions and explanations. In short, I can run the program myself, I just chose not to.

Now, i think he can see that I know what he's up to. Actually the whole team can see what he's up to. He's up on his toes and trying to be "bossy" asking me to do things DESPITE my warnings of what may happen if we do. I assume he's thinking I'm trying to counter his decisions because I want him to fail, so he resists my advices.

Fine with me. If he must know, if him and his former boss only did the research or if they're a bit of smart... they'd know that I would never do anything to harm the program. Even if it means having to make someone look like the hero albeit everything he's done.

There. I've ranted quite enough. a little more I might divulge the name of the boss and the company I work for. then i'd get sacked. sheesh after 5 years of loyalty. not worth it.

*deep breath*

thanks for reaching this far. hahah!

have a good day and I hope your boss isn't like mine.

its fog here Hazel,

firstly, that is the calmest feeling nicest RANT I've ever read gurrl!! hehe! You need to let og more, call the juvenile idiot he's a tosser or whatever to rid yourself of the angst!!

I wonder whether he is busily trying to find a fall guy for failure, so he can blame you or your partner, abd/or others, if the programme screws up?

I would notate all his directions to you and all your responses, and why you responded the way you did.

That way, if it all goes arse up, you will have some proof, and a history, of his incompetance!

cheers

oh dear.

That is quite calm I realized just now. Then again, I did say I had to be careful. to some extent, I still need to respect the guy for the position he holds.

I don't want to lose my job because of someone who got away with it because of great interviewing skills.

But I did note EVERY thing he's told me and emailed me and texted me lol. I know that, my grandfather was a lawyer, and my previous bosses taught me very very well

here's something that I forgot to include. This makes everyone I've told this story to flare up, especially the women...

"Forgive me, I don't know how to deal or talk to you because this is the first time I'm dealing/talking to a girl that isn't my assistant."

talk about a chauvinistic prick!

What an idiot. Don't let him put you off from doing a great job! You know you can always quit and let him just try to figure it all out himself
