I LIKE ASIANS

February 25th 2009 00:16
I like Asians.
Even if they have come here and stolen our jobs, they probably do them better. They work really hard. There are a lot of Asians in my neighbourhood. And plenty of Asian shopkeepers. They start off with a shop that is really basic and a bit shoddy but before your eyes, bit by bit, they get better fixtures and bigger fridges and wider counters. They slog away and they look so tired but they remain remarkably pleasant.

I feel safe with a lot of Asians in my neighbourhood. When I'm out walking after dark and I see a group of young Asian guys, it never crosses my mind that they might be thugs. I know that Asians commit crimes, too. I've heard accounts of the violence of Asian pirates. I read all about that crazy Asian guy who lured the female real estate agent to a property in a far outer region of Melbourne and murdered her. But he's an exception.
And Asians make nice food. Quality for price, Asian food can't be beaten. They really have advanced our culinary choices and improved our diet.
And the babies! They are so cute. All babies are cute, I know, but Asian babies are by far the cutest - like little dolls.
Is that racist?

Only if you are serious and not Asian.

Hi Damo
Of course you mean - if I'm notserious. And there's another thing I like - you never hear Asians going on about 'discrimination' They just get on with it!

I like the way Asians just get on with discrimination too.

Comment by Teresa Ralton

February 25th 2009 23:53
There will always be discrimination. My observation is that Asians just get on with their lives and don't get drawn into the ignorance that provokes it.

I am fluctuating between thinking that you are attempting to make a comment on racism by highlighting this form of it and between thinking that you are actually serious.

I honestly don't know which scenario is worse. If it is the former, then what is it apropro of? And could you not have chosen a less offensive manner in which to make your point? If the latter...well I'm sorry that you feel that patronising an entire race of people is somehow complimentary.

Comment by Teresa Ralton

February 26th 2009 00:14
Making a point? Yes, that's right. I sincerely doubt that many Asians would take offense to my post. Why exactly does it offend you? I hardly think it is patronizing to say you actually like a race and to deny that cultural differences exist, takes our modern desire to be politically correct to an extreme point.

You are stereotyping and generalising. And if that is not enough, you are treating the subjects of your post as if they have no individual characteristics of their own but merely exist as one homogenuous, monolithic entity.

Have you seen Mississippi Burning? There is a line in it when one of the racist small town cops says something along the lines of, "The thing about Blacks? Their kids are so cute".

I'm not Aisan but I come from an Arab background and when I read your post I substittuted the word "Arab" for the word "Asian". And i can tell you that yes, your post is racist.

Having said that, I'm still not entirely sure that you aren't taking the piss.

Years ago Monty Python had a really funny song - 'I like Chinese' It was very popular, even with Asians. How is saying 'I like' a racial group stereoptyping? We all make generalisations about all sorts of things. To make an observation about a group is not to imply that the individuals who make up that group do not have their separate identities. But racial characteristics are a fact. It is only stereotyping if you mentally limit the individual to certain notable attributes of their race. And real racism is the belief in the superiority of one group over another. I find Asian people, generally, gentle and pleasant.

Monty Python? So you are taking the piss?

At least with Monty Python, everyone knows where they are coming from.

Comment by Teresa Ralton

February 26th 2009 05:33
And where is that, exactly?

Comment by RubySoho

February 26th 2009 06:15
Well we know they are taking the piss. I haven't heard the song in question but knowing what I do about Monty Python, they were probably making more of a comment on the people who say they like (or don't like), the Chinese and less on the Chinese themselves. Just like your post says more about yourself than it does about any Asian.

But like I said, we know where Monty Python are coming from. Where are you coming from? Is this a joke post?

Comment by Teresa Ralton

February 26th 2009 06:25
In fact the Monty Python song is based on a guy who hates people - but likes Chinese. It isn't having a subtle dig at people who have a patronizing attitude towards them. Some humourless people called that 'racist' too. I agree that my post says something about myself but understanding what that is seems to be beyond you.

I think the influx of Asians into Australia is a great contribution to our Australian culture.
Damo,
being married to a Sri Lankan lady you will appreciate that cultural differences inform a person's personality and attitude and are part of the appeal.

Hi Journeywoman
Let me explain:
It seems incredible to me that my post could be so misinterpreted but I put that down to the fact that Morgan Bell, supported (naturally) by her sidekick, latched onto it because they were determined to find something about which to attack me - because I accused Morgan of encouraging her vicious sidekick to attack and insult people who disagreed with her - as he attacked me on the '13 yr old boy becomes a father' post . I don't think her readers realized what she was actually referring to at first with the 'I Like Caucasians' post - just assumed she was being her usual amusing and clever self. (Her sidekick did an "I like Coons' post at the same time and even resorted to having an African American person comment which any fool could see was fake - now that's what I call an insult) I think that once Morgan's readers read this(my) post -which she and her sidekick directed them to- her attempt at satirising me must have seemed misguided. She tries to hold up to riducule a position that I simply haven't taken. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who finds my post offensive and racist is looking to do so. Or is overanxious to seem non-racist. Or maybe they really do believe that Morgan is wise. The first line was a throwaway line, which I made because I have heard it said so many times. While I can understand what makes people say that, I find it silly because, on balance I think having so many Asians come into Australia is a very positive thing. Writing the post came about because of a joke my 15 year old son made. And because I find enforced political correctness to be beyond a joke.

I find it ironic that the very person who makes false accusations about others being pedophiles thinks that he has earned the right to even mention insensitivity.

I also find it ironic that the another person who admires urine art think that they have the right to even mention offensiveness.

Perhaps alt_ed should go back to his usual practice of stalking people and boasting about it. Or his other habit of dropping insults on posts of people he hates. Or his habit of putting posts with people names on them. Or his habit of putting up images of other blogger with dildos on them. Then that would not be creepy and insensitive would it? Not in his warped immature mind. No way.

They are both just sniveling little bigots, cowards and hatemongers picking on you because you dared to disagree with another sniveling little coward. Rather than act like adults and lay out a clear case of why they disagree they attack you in a cheap and petty smear campaign.

Teresa you can delete any post that is offensive including this one.

i find it ironic that someone who attacks bloggers on his own blog but never dares to disagree with them on their blogs can even mention cowardice.

i also think this is a clear cut case of jealousy and sour grapes. Morgan has the most popular blog on Orble and it is just eating you two alive isn't it?

Hi Damo,

Perhaps you also failed to comprehend what Teresa had written, like so many other things that you fail to fully understand.

She asked if her post was racist. A direct question. And now, lets just look at the 'irony' here... Teresa is upset, and so are you it would seem, because people have dared answer her direct question! Um, well, sorry. Perhaps the lesson here is, if you don't like people disagreeing with you, don't ask insensitive questions.

She had the nerve to tell a blogger who commented her, that they were probably not even Asian, then deleted their comments as it obviously reflected poorly upon her.

I mean, we can't have Asian's commenting on this blog stating how much they loath it can we.

On the other hand Damo, you know my feelings towards you. You're an idiot. A man who wants to rule the world from his tea cup.

Have you even bothered to ask you're Sri Lankan wife how she feels about this post? Or is she not allowed to voice her own opinion...

oh Teresa, you're so right... foiled my little plan again.

You've obviously had to do some heavy 'brain-wok', I mean 'work' piecing it all together haven't you... I mean the nerve of me impersonating another blogger, HOW DARE I!

Just imagine how cool it would be if it were actually true though. But like so many things that you pen, it's utter garbage. Darlin, I don't need to have a fake profile, I'm happy enough calling you a dumb mole from my own.

Hi Teresa,

I've been on Orble for three years, and I can tell you that Johnny Come Lately and Alt_ed are two different people. If JCL said he was Asian, I believe him.

Here's what I think of your post:
First of all, the idea that immigrants are 'stealing' jobs from older Australians is a myth, because many immigrants start their own businesses, therefore actually creating new jobs. Also, I disagree with the whole concept of 'stealing' jobs - everyone is legally entitled to whatever job they can get, no matter how new they are to Australia.

From your post, it's hard for me to figure out exactly how you feel about race, which is why I haven't gotten too involved in this latest Orble controversy. I think Morgan's piece stands very well on its own.

I can appreciate that your intentions were good, however I think listening to the responses of the community would be wise.

If I'm in doubt, I apologise - it'll help your readers deal with their feelings, and attract more readers to your blog.

Good luck to you,
PoMo

Hi Pomo,
I can see that you have the right intentions with your comment. But let me clarify:
I didn't say that I thought Alted and JCL were the same person, I said that JCL was 'planted'. I stick by that and to explain would take a bit more effort than I can exert.
And there isn't any doubt that the 'african american' is a complete fake.
I explained already that the 'stealing job' comment was me parrotting a phrase I have heard many times because I think it's such a stupid thing to say. Sorry if you didn't get it! But thanks for visiting. I don't mind answereing criticism if it is genuinely felt.

You can probably see how this crowd operate.

They take some thing trivial and open to interpretation then put their own perverted twist on it.

Butt_ed keeps hammering on because he is a bigot himself and needs to find a noble cause to hide behind. False indignation is old, lame and been tried before. Before he starts preaching to other about bad behavior he should clean up his own act.

There is no point arguing when they have come with expressed purpose of going on the attack. They do not want talk the post over with you but to keep arguing that black is white so that they can create a smear campaign based upon the false accusation of being racist.

As I said he is a sniveling little coward because now he is playing the race card to gain sympathy.

All they want you to do is bicker with them and waste your time.

Today my daughter was asking me about having a garment altered. I saw recently that there is a new tailor shop opened not far from our home but I have had problems with a couple of tailors doing crappy jobs so I wasn't sure what to tell her in case this was another crappy tailor. I thought about it a bit and then suggested that she go and have a look in the window. If the person was Asian I thought there was a good chance that they'd do a good job. No doubt some people would love to see this as 'racist' but as far as I'm concerned anyone bigoted and narrow minded enough to make a racist mountain out of a molehill can stick it you know where!

I consider their jealousy as the highest compliment that any one can give me.

5 Posts to sabotage this one speaks volumes about the inability of people to read and comprehend. It also speaks volumes about how shallow people can be.

However like all frauds they attack what they wanted you to say and ignore what you actually said.
