Flashes of memories - MUGABE MUST GO!!! ZIMBABWEANS NEED THEIR HOME BACK

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness - Carl Jung To be at one with God is to be at peace ... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul. - Ralph Waldo Trine

I have found my new home!

Brisbane is not really like most other big cities. It is a lot cleaner and a lot more laid back than say, Sydney or London... and driving in the city centre, although still a tad scary is do-able for even the most country-bumpkin of us all *grin*. (I still could not hack living in the city mind you!) This lookout is great, giving you a view across the Brisbane River to the towering buildings.... but this was just a passing point to... 'O'Reilly`s Rainforest Retreat' near the Gold Coast. I have been saying that I wanted to run away to the mountains and now I have found the place to run away to! The drive through the dry farmlands under an overcast sky does not offer much hope for anything spectacular upon arrival. The mountains scatter the landscape in an ordinary fashion, everything glowing grey and brown. A few horses and cows broke the mundane scenery as the land began to slowly rise.
Heading past the vineyard was difficult, I had to steer the wheel back onto the road to stop the car doing her own thing and zipping in for a tickle of the tastebuds, it was difficult, but I managed! The scenery became more and more dramatic the higher the land climbed. In the distance the landscape began to fade into blue ghostly figures topped by dark rainclouds. The road hugged the mountainside tightly as if inhaling to keep the car safely close to her chest like a mother with a newborn baby. Around every bend it grew more and more breathtaking.
Eventually after reaching heights that felt similar to those of the stars the road began to level out and farmland appeared again. The wind had a fresh crispness about it and the plants and trees glowed green from their healthy diet of sunlight and mountain air. Leaves scattered from the trees in welcome like confetti on a lovers wedding day, the overhanging branches making a tight, protective tunnel leading to the retreat. No radio, no TV, no mobiles... no contact with reality. What bliss!
The rugged mountain man with the soft voice and gentle eyes wove his way confidently through the maze of corridors that led outside to the walkways and rooms. Every now and again a glimpse of breathtaking scenery broke through the gap in the buildings. 'You will not be disturbed until I come jogging past at 5:30am tomorrow morning' he grinned. The slight accent was like velvet to the ears and the smile sent butterflies to the heart. Thank goodness I am an early riser.....to be continued!

Ash,

I hope you translated it into animal speak.

What a lovely ride, but I'm wondering what lies beyond the front door and how it will affect the job.

A great tale and great pictures, you took me with you.

Please do not tell us the rugged mountain man was a product of altitude sickness hallucination!!...because he sounds purty darn real to me!!

Should have take a photo of him...you know just from a photographer's perspective...that fine appreciation of beauty you have...some day my prints will come...

I love these images.

Ash...are you a professional photographer?
Or is this just a 'hobby'?...because these...they are not just flashes of memories and memories of Ash... they're creations of Art.

What an eye you have.

Amazing.

Looking forward tbc...

Hi Ash

Your post has brought back so many memories for me. Last year we holidayed in the Gold Coast Hinterland and loved it so much that in a few months we will be relocating ourselves to that beautiful area, around Beechmont and Mount Tamborine.

I am so looking forward to it. The cool, fresh and invigorating mountainous Hinterland just takes my breath away.

Beautiful writing and gorgeous pictures, Ash. Thankyou for sharing.

*giggle* I honestly didn`t mean to leave there I just got disturbed and did not want to run the risk of having to upload the photos again... how unromantic is that! (not that there is any romance mind!)

....home is where the smile sent butterflies to the heart is...??
oh yes! pity it was someone else`s home *grin*

oh he was real my fellow patron of the arts... he was VERY real. I should have asked him to pose... said I was doing an article for this new netzine called 'Orble'.... well it wouldn`t have been a lie now would it? DAMN now I have to go back again....

what a lovely compliment Dusk, thank you... I wish I were a professional but no I just fiddle around really... life seems a lot more beautiful through the lens of a camera... Mother Nature is really the artist I try to capture it as best I can.

hugs to ya

Hi Andrea,

oh my word how lucky are you... it is absolutely gorgeous there isn`t it? Your mind instantly clears after a few gulps of fresh mountain air and no matter how long you look at the same spot it never loses it`s beauty. I am not a fan of the Gold Coast at all really, but the Hinterland is stunning. I went through Canungra on the way up... such a picturesque little place.

All the best of luck with your move, I hope it is a good one for you and your family.

Ash -

I love these little get aways of yours, as well as the photos they produce. I have to agree with popular opinion here... you could easily pursue photography as a profession. Your pictures are always so stunning!

Looking forward to more,

Hiya Wendi,

Thanks... this one was the best yet I reckon... although I`m going basking in the amazing glories of Fraser Island in a couple of weeks so I may change my mind *grin*

It`s been yet another thing I have been thinking about.... but people wanna see the PAPERS, the EXPERIENCE, the QUALIFICATIONS.... before they even look at what you can actually DO... makes me sick! Thank you though.... I love my camera, it`s my prized possession
