Usenet

More on WHS later, especially after reading this article... WHS and Media Center Integration
I have a long way to go for what I would like to accomplish, but also on limited funds.
I've been thinking a lot about Usenet lately. What happened to it is the main question I have. I know most providers still have throttled speed access to it and there are newsfeed sites that allow a paid subscription.
The Fight Club theme seems to run on Usenet. "The First Rule of Usenet is you don't talk about Usenet." I think this is from the amount of illegal content on it. But there was at one time so much more to it.
I remember using it pre-WWW to buy and sell computer parts for my Amiga. Kind of like the origins of online marketplaces. I also remember using it to converse programming ideas back and forth. Get answers to coding questions. Read fan-fiction. Etc...
It seems like Usenet has gone the way of Gopher. It's almost too bad, because a part of me still misses it. Just like the MUDs I played in college, I will never return to them, but a part of me still yearns for that experience.
It's the old does technological progress always make us better? Or have we given up a piece of our soul in the process?
