How to Mess Young Kids Up

June 30th 2009 09:44
It's simple - just buy them some of these Brutal Soft Toys.

It is very hard to find any info on the artist - all I can find is the photos - sorry about that. If you are the maker, artist or photographer please let me know so I can credit you.

I think they make amazing art and would love the unicorn in my house

Those toys are utterly tasteless - what self respecting person would even consider giving these as gifts to young children.

Thanks Morgan - I love them

Aimee - no one would - that is why they are art. The post title is called a joke

I am sure they can be made in any color Norm
I would much prefer a white unicorn - people might think I am gay with the pink one.

I don't see the word "joke" anywhere in the title Jason King - what am I missing?

Aimee Dent - an explanation of what black comedy means (an no this is not racist comedy).

The purpose of black comedy is to make light of serious and often taboo subject matter, and some comedians use it as a tool for exploring important issues, thus provoking discomfort and serious thought, as well as amusement, in their audience. Popular themes of the genre include rape, murder, suicide, war, terminal illness, abuse, insanity, disease and crime. By contrast, so-called blue comedy focuses more on crude topics, such as sex and bodily fluids.

Although the two are interrelated, black comedy is different from straightforward obscenity, in that it is more subtle and doesn't necessarily have an explicit intention to offend; black comedy should be contrasted with obscenity. In obscene humor, much of the humorous element comes from shock and revulsion, while black comedy usually includes an element of irony, or even fatalism.

It is not a joke to be written in black and white - it is for people inlcuding yourself to work out. Like the reason behind the artwork itself - it is there to get a reaction and from your reaction I can see it has done its job maybe a bit too well. Most people that read this site know alot of my posts are of a comedic nature or just random articles of interest. My apologies if this does not sit well with your beliefs.

Jason, this is one of the funniest things I've seen in ages. I hope someone claims credit for the pics because I want to buy the whole set! I have the perfect shelf for them. They appeal to my inner sicko. Love them! The unicorn is my favourite too.

They look like characters from Robot Chicken (which if you haven't seen yet - get thee straight to a video store). It really wouldn't surprise me if Seth and Matt are behind these.

BTW, have been on hols and just got back, your book is winging it's way back to you. I'm SO sorry I had it for so long! You are such a star for the loan. I loved it

Yay CJ - welcome back. Glad you like them - I also really like the siamese teddies

I thought you were still sick. Glad it was holidays!!

Will we get a post on your trip?? I sent you an email this morning asking of you.

I have seen some Robot Chicken and loved it but don't have pay TV - will have to rent it out. I love Seth!!

No worries about the book - it's just going to sit on the shelf gaining dust - I might try and convince Morgan to read it, it's that good. Am watching Thirst on
I will PM you this comment - kind of getting off topic

Diana - Haha - Glad you like them.
I just search for "bizarre" sometimes and this came up once - I have searched "Soft Brutal Toys" so many times and all I can find is the pics and no info on the artist of where they are from - nothing. But the pics are on a few thousand pages.
If I ever find info I will post it on here.

Thanks for the comment!

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at these. On one side they are hysterically funny but they are oh, so gory - particularly because they are so real. and - for children?

As an adult I may be able to laugh them off but if I had kids I would certainly be horrified if they got hold of them. Interesting find, nevertheless.

I am pretty confident they would not be made for children Janet - I think someone just has a sick sense of humor.
I can see these in an upmarket art gallery and they would fetch a pretty penny. I would like my hands on any of them

Oh poo. They are called Macabre Plush Toys but are art and not for general sale. Damn, they could make a motza!

Thanks for visiting Cathy and glad you got a good laugh out of them. I think the Siamese Teddies are cute The shark one would look good hanging on a wall somewhere - they would always get a passing comment from people.
Have a good one

"Go away, Matthew. You're under 12-year-old and these toys are not suitable for you!"

Forgive me, Jason. However, I thought these toys were too brutal, even for the adults.

Haha Wilson.

Not toys - you can't buy them - they are art. It only applies for people with a sick sense of humor I suppose.

Thanks for your comment and have a good one
