How to Make Yarn Flowers
November 12th 2008 03:20
Materials:
Worsted weight yarn
Paper towel tube
1. Cut a length of yarn the same length as paper towel tube. Tape one end of yarn to each side of tube.
2. Leaving a 4" tail of yarn hanging down, start wrapping yarn evenly around tube until tube is covered. Cut yarn, leaving another 4" tail of yarn hanging down.
3. Slide both ends of yarn towards center of tube. Tie taped ends of yarn around bunched yarn, don't knot. Slide yarn off tube (it may help to flatten tube as you go, or have someone hold one end of the tube while you slide yarn off the other end).
4. Tighten loose yarn ends, then knot. Knot 4" tails together, as well. Trim ends short.
5. To make stem, push a thick chenille stem through center of flower. Twist short end around long end to secure.
Sew or glue buttons or pompoms to flower centers for a more playful look. Enjoy!
