How to Make Santa Slippers From Greeting Cards
March 27th 2009 15:01
Materials:
2 greeting cards
Hole punch
Small amount worsted weight yarn
Size H crochet hook
Thin plastic such as quilt template plastic
Dry erase marker
1. Using dry erase marker, draw a shoe shape onto quilt template plastic. The shoe shape pictured is 7" tall. You can make tiny slippers for ornaments, medium-sized slippers or large slippers. I chose large slippers to use more of the card. You can trace around an old child's shoe if that helps. Then, draw another toe shape a little more than half the length of the shoe shape...mine is 4". You can just draw 2 shoe shapes, then cut the top heel part off of it to make your 2nd template, if you find that easier. Rinse away dry erase marks.
2. Lay large shoe template onto picture half of a greeting card and trace around it with pencil. Cut out shape. Repeat with smaller toe template.
3. Place toe shape on top of shoe shape. Using hole punch, punch holes all the way around the slipper,
then puch holes across only the toe piece across the straight bottom part.
4. Join yarn w sl st in farthest hole to right on straight edge of toe piece, ch 1, sc across straight bottom of toe piece, then join bottom part of slipper to toe piece and work through both thicknesses
sc ing evenly around entire piece. You may need to work 2 sc into one hole around your curves, join w sl st in 1st sc, fasten off.
Weave in ends.
You can make a hanging loop with a small length of yarn.
Stuff slipper w candy or small toys if desired.
If you don't crochet, you could probably use a smaller sized hole punch, then just whipstitch these pieces together.
Enjoy!
