How to Keep Your New Year's Resolutions
December 18th 2008 16:02
1. Don't make a list of one hundred resolutions. Set one or two realistic, achievable goals.
2. Tell the world about your resolution. Blog about it. Tell your friends and family about your resolution. This telling will keep you accountable and provide you with needed support.
3. Have a plan for when temptation to break your resolve pops up.
What will you do if you're on a diet and are offered a slice of cake? Will you
a. politely refuse
or
b. ask for a smaller slice?
Planning ahead will keep you on the right track.
4. Keep in mind why you made the resolution to start with. Did you resolve to quit smoking because you want to love longer? Did you resolve to write a novel because you are quickly aging and you haven't written one yet?
Do you want to recycle the same resolution in 2010? Wouldn't it be more fulfilling to achieve your goal this year?
5. Brag about how well you are holding up. Share an excerpt from your novel on your blog. Tell your struggling friends about how well you're sticking to your diet.
You will inspire others to achieve their goals and, at the same time, receive the positive feedback you may need to keep going for nine more months!
