How old is the power ballad?

Everyone knows a power ballad even if you call it something else.
It's one of those "she done me wrong" or "I love her so much" slow tunes done by a usually rockin' band.
Power ballads got pretty big in the late 70's and progressed into the 80's as record executives cashed in on the popularity of the hard rock acts in their stable--acts who may have been able to sell out concerts but never cracked the Top-40.
Before anyone coined the phrase "power ballad" Grand Funk Railroad was rockin' out in the early 70's with their own ballads.
Here are a couple. First up is Mean Mistreater--

And live 1974 HEARTBREAKER--
OR we can go back even further to 1968 and Vanilla Fudge - You Keep Me Hanging On
Maybe the power ballad has been around longer than we think?
