Hotel Review: Don Udo's, in Copan Ruinas, Honduras
July 29th 2008 03:40
Copan Ruins is a must-go destination for any serious Central American traveler. It is not the biggest of the Mayan Ruins (no climb to the top of a pyramid), but they have the most detailed carvings and hieroglyphics. The guides who have studied the history of the Mayans can explain the subtle meanings behind the intriguing carvings.
There are also three more big reasons to go to Copan -- Great food, day tours, and great hotels. I'lll let you chose your own tours and food, but I will recommend a hotel.
Don Udo's is a small hotel, recently finished in a boutique style. To be more clear, the interiors are newly redone, and the mattresses and bedding are of the highest quality. Add in the Cable TV, and spacious bathrooms, and it's hardly Honduran at all. All of this starts at only $40 a night, low season. There are also several suites with one or two bedrooms and small kitchenettes.
There is a small typical restaurant in the entryway and a stocked bar. Both are open all day, and breakfast is included in most rates. Don Udo is famous for his long running restaurant, Don Udo's in San Pedro Sula, so the food is always good.
These rates make it easy to stay a long time, and you will want to, in order to try the many tours around Copan, like Hot Springs and Spa, Butterfly Garden, and the Coffee Plantation tour. Oh, and then there are these ruins . . . . .
