Help!

To anyone good at computers: please give me some advice before i throw my laptop out the window.
My internet connection is playing up, but not in the usual way. Around 10 minutes after I turn my laptop on, it stops opening websites. However, this is not because it is disconnected from the internet. MSN still works just fine, the wireless is connected, and it still happens even when it's plugged straight into the modem. All it says is that the websites are taking too long to respond or something along those lines. Then I reset, and websites are fine again... for another 10 minutes.
Not that resetting my computer 6 times an hour isn't fun or anything, but please, HELP!

Open Windows Task Manager and watch the CPU Usage.
The Processors tab will tell what program is chewing up CPU.
Install a firewall program if you do not have one - COMODO is free and very good.
Install Apple Safari or Firefox and see if the problem follows web or the software.
When browsing open Network Connections Status to see if traffic starts to build up quickly
Start Dr Watson and see if messages occur.
Beyond that I suspect either a virus or corrupted software install.

My laptop ran just fine when I got it... this problem sort of sprang up out of nowhere. I have tried both firefox and internet explorer, but I have the same problem with both.
I am running AVG free at the moment, is COMODO any better? What i don't understand is how my internet can be working fine without being able to open any sites?
argh, so frustrating.

All the big name anti virus manufacturers have become rubbish bloatware.
I use nod32 for virus and Comodo as the firewall.
The nod32 profile is updated several times a day.
The firewall will also prevent hidden programs from starting.
