Help on synchronicity
August 20th 2007 07:48
Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can learn more about the concept of synchronicity?
Particularly Mis, you seem to be quite familiar with Jung, can you help me out a bit with what he says about synchronicity and where? But also anyone else who has any ideas about where I could learn more, books, articles, films, your own ideas, anything, please let me know.
I seem to have found myself running into the idea of synchronicity in lots of places, at the same time that I have been giving a lot of thought to the nature and validity of causality as a model of how things work. I am very keen to find out what different people have meant by the term, how they've used it and what other ideas are involved.
Thanks

The phenomenon 'Synchronicity' is since the time C.G. Jung worked on it still a very mysterious, hard to grasp item in our human life. The way these synchronistic events are created baffles our mind and challenges us to our deepest, most elaborate research into consciousness and self-awareness of the human mind.
We talk about syncronicity when two or more seemingly 'pure chance' events coincide to form a connection that has a special meaning for the perceiver. It's by definition bound to be personal and connected with the perception of the observer, its personal meaning, purpose and destiny
Synchronistic events are according to Jung the cornerstones of our life, our consciousness and its structure. They are NOT AT ALL pure luck items but much more some kind of very energetic, meaningful coincidences that really challenge our consciousness and understanding of the working of the surrounding our self-awareness.
We have two kind of connected synchronistic items and coincidences: those with an appearance in real time, contained over a short time span at a particular place and those that are spread out over certain longer periods of time. This is also called 'seriality' (Paul Kammerer - Austria) but I use the term 'synchronicity' in both cases as I see little distinction between them.
I hope this helps a little
