Just because the words “muffins”, “cakes”, “cupcakes”, “brownies” and “cookies” come up, doesn’t mean you have to feel guilty about it. There are many ways to turn unhealthy treats into healthier ones, full of all natural ingredients and 100% Vegan! If you are skeptical, don’t be – You can make amazingly delicious vegan desserts without eggs, butter, dairy milk or even flour or refined sugar! And they won’t taste odd, they will just taste wonderful, and you will be able to feel good about making them because they are made from non-GMO natural ingredients.

Let’s get started! This post will help you for gluten-free baking, low fat, low sugar, low-glycemic and raw desserts.


Butter Substitutions

• Unsweetened Apple Sauce – Great for making moist desserts – Cakes, muffins, brownies, pancakes and cupcakes.

• Canned or Pureed Pumpkin – Great for muffins, breads and certain cookies.

• Pureed Fruits – Great in fruit cakes and certain cookies (non-chocolate)

• Avocado – Amazing for Raw Desserts. Avocado can also be using to making creamy fillings and puddings

• Coconut Oil and Coconut Butter – Very healthy fats. Adding coconut oil into your diet may even help you lose weight because your body needs healthy fats.

• Earth Balance Butter Substitute - Vegan Butter Substitute (Tastes VERY similar to dairy butter) *Earth Balance Ingredients: Expeller-pressed natural oil blend (soybean, palm fruit, canola and olive), filtered water, pure salt, natural flavour (derived from corn, no msg, no alcohol, no gluten), soy protein, soy lecithin, lactic acid (non-dairy, derived from sugar beets), and naturally extracted annatto for colour.

• Non-Dairy Yogurt – Works well in pancakes. Make sure to get the unsweetened kind.

Dairy Milk Substitutions

• Soy Milk
• Almond Milk
• Rice Milk
• Hemp Milk
• Oat Milk
• Coconut Milk

Some non-daily milk Brands:

• Rice Dream
• Pacific
• Blue Diamond
• Silk
• So Delicious

Egg Substitutions

• Ener-G Egg Replacer (http://www.ener-g.com/)
• Bob's Red Mill Egg Replacer - Made from wheat and soy.
• Flax seeds - Add one tablespoon of flax meal to 3 tablespoon (or Ratio 1:3) of water and mix together and treat this as you would 1 egg.
• Silken Tofu
• Banana
• Chia Seeds - Stir in 1 tbs of Chia seeds into 3 tbs of water and let it sit for a few minutes until the chia seeds expand and become gelatinous.


Refined Sugar Substitutions


• Lucuma Powder
• Pure Maple Syrup
• Honey
• Yacon Syrup
• Brown Rice Syrup
• Agave Syrup
• Dates (sugar) or Paste
• Coconut Sap
• Stevia (powder or liquid)

White Flour Substitutions / Gluten Free Flour

• Coconut Flour (This smells AMAZING)
• Almond Flour (ground up almond)
• Oat Flour (Good for oatmeal cookies, breads, muffins and pancakes)
• Buckwheat Flour
• Quinoa Flour
• Tapioca Flour
• Rye Flour
