The Policeman's Ball

March 13th 2009 13:41
A woman in a hurry to get her daughter to school on time was pulled over for speeding.

The mom smiled at her daughter and said "Don't worry dear! I can get out of this ticket."

The cop approached the car and he asked "Mam do you know why I pulled you over?" With a big smile she replied "Sure you are selling tickets to the policeman's ball."

He then said, "Mam, I am a State Trooper, we don't have balls."

A study by Michigan State University and the Michigan Department of Community Health shows that a very small percentage of Americans are living a healthy lifestyle.

Experts say a healthy lifestyle is dependent in part on four basics that help a person prevent and control chronic diseases: not smoking, controlling weight, eating a good diet, and getting physical activity.

By these measures, only three percent of Americans are living a healthy lifestyle.

The research examined data from surveys on 153,000 adults in all fifty states. Specifically, they looked at whether the subjects were eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day and getting regular physical activity. The details:

76 percent did not smoke
40 percent maintained a healthy weight
23 percent ate five or more fruits and vegetables a day
22 percent get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise at least 5 times per week
"These data, along with those that illustrate the benefit of following a healthy lifestyle, support the need for comprehensive primary prevention activities to increase healthy lifestyles and to reduce the prevalence of chronic risk factors." - Archives of Internal Medicine

Addictedtosmoking

This is probably one of the most difficult things you will ever do in life if you are a cigarette smoker. It is an addiction that is keeping you from being your best. I can speak from experience myself. I smoked 2 packs a day along with a bag of reefer, marijuana every week. Now I am a licensed Drug & Alcohol counselor. I know about this first hand, so it is not just because I know it is a addictive habit. Now I facilitate a class to help people who want to quit smoking. I can tell you that the nicotine in those cigarettes are as addictive as a cocaine addiction. It is true along with the other 99 or so additive chemicals that you are digesting in your body
