Politics and Bioethics

Bioethicists is a scary word. During WWII the Nazi were conducting biomedical experiments on human subjects. The modern field of bioethics first emerged as an academic discipline in the 1960's.
The Bush Administration and as far as I know, Obama's Administration has a Bioethics Commission. And they do talk about end-of-life issues such as an older person with dementia and should they be encourage in assisted suicide. They talk about what makes a person not a person anymore or the person that they were. Their discussions are really quite invovled.
Bioethicists come from many different backgrounds, such as health care, philosophy, law, the social sciences, and religious studies.
The topic that bioethicists discuss are end-of-life issues. When I heard about the national health plan will have counseling for the elderly on end-of-life issues. Rationing health care in the elderly. That just floored me! However, it was explained that the counseling was for a living will.
Then I heard the other side saying that the elderly will be urged to think about physician assisted suicide. I heard that those of us that are financially poor, will not have the same quality of care that the wealthy will have.
This national health plan is not what it should be. Why would I pay in taxes, for them to tell me when I reach a certain age that I should think about physician assisted suicide, or if a family that doesn't pay as much in taxes for the health plan because they don't make as much, will not have quality care that someone with money will. People, no matter who you are, you deserve the best quality health care there.
Some bioethicists believe that handicap (mentally and physically), the elderly, should have an expiration date because they are draining the economy. They are a burden to society. What are some people thinking?
