For those seeking rom without the com. A romance with developed characterisation and plausability here are some that I highly recomend.

Before Sunrise- This film has amazing dialogue and convincing chemistry, owing no doubt to the fact that the characters so closely resemble the actors they portray (Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy ) who are featured in the credits as co writers (and currently confirmed to be lovers). The result is a beautiful film that simulates the way one feels after being immersed in an amazing conversation with a new aquaintance you felt an instant affinity with.

Before Sunset- A sequel that still resonates with the effect and intention of the original. A Well written and critically acclaimed closure of a love sotry that hadd me enthralled.

My Life Without Me-
Starring Sarah Polley, Mark Ruffalo and Debrah Harry. This film appraoches the themes of romance, life, death and love from an original angle. Any triteness that is prevalent in voice over narration and life/death cliches is counteracted by the starkness of the film.

Closer- A stellar cast in a scintilating story of convaluted romances. Natalie Portman, Jude Law, Julia Roberts and Clive Owen are given scathing dialogue and characters that extend beyond what is shown visually giving the film a fantastic pace and fierceness.

Chasing Amy- An unsuspecting gem from Kevin Smith who is responsible for "Clerks" and "Silent Bob and Jay". The tagline "it's not who you love it's how" is indicative of how the film explores sexuality and how it can interfere with friendships and corrupt love. Ben Affleck, Jason Lee and Joey Lauren Adams star in the film which has served as an amazing platform for all of them before they were famous. Smith's credits commend their efforts saying "they worked for nothing but gave everything". The film exlores homophobia, repressed sexuality, male conservatism, female promiscuity, lesbianism and more. Well worth seeing.

Why I blog

My blog is for the thrifty cinephiles who search the weekly isle of their local video/DVD store in vain. Knowing that within the moderately priced shelves there has to be some gold amid the crap of yesteryear. I am here to give you reviews of films passed from new release status so you don't have to spend hours perusing only to wind up with another failed gamble.Your text goes hereYour text goes here
