Half Price Petrol
September 18th 2006 11:38
Can high petrol prices be a good thing? Everyone is shocked how extravegant the prices are becoming. However, not many people realise that high petrol prices can have beneficial results.
Ever since the petrol prices have risen, many people do not go out as often and they tend to be extra careful on how much they are spending when they visit shopping centres. It really is a hassle. I drive a Ford Laser and it costs me around $60 to fill it up. I really do feel sorry for the people who drive bigger cars and $60 just isn't enough to fill their tank. However, spending this amount of money just on petrol has lead to many people selling their big cars to smaller cars or changing their car so that it runs on gas. This helps the environment dramatically. It doesn't pollute the air as much and it certaintly doesn't help create a larger hole in the ozone layer.
So how does someone pay half the price when buying petrol? In Melbourne every Monday and Tuesday petrol prices are low compared to every other day of the week. So when your tank is half empty or half full (whichever one you prefer) you should refill on the Monday or Tuesday. For example, it costs me as i mentioned before, $60 to fill up my tank on a Monday or Tuesday when my car is nearly 'running on empty. So when i fill it up the next time, i don't wait for it to go back to empty so i can pay another $60 i wait until it hits the halfway mark so that i can pay half the amount i would normally pay when my car has no petrol. You might think that it is the same thing the only difference is that your paying in installments rather than the full lot up front, but i would be pretty upset if i used my car a lot during a particular week only to find that my car has run out of petrol on a Thursday or Friday; a very expensive day to fill up your tank.
Around the eastern suburbs of Melbourne; Templestowe, Doncaster Bulleen etc. petrol prices can rise dramatically. It was either a Thursday or Friday where i saw a petrol station offering petrol for 145.9. This was outrageous. During Monday's and Tuesday's the price hits around 122.9. The petrol station i use to fill up my tank is right next to my University. It has offered as low as 117.5
Spend your money wisely!
