To Begin Writing Song Lyrics, Or Creating Anything For That Matter, You Must First Have An Idea. Just As If You Were Writing A Story, You Too Need To Have Characters, Plots, Ideas, And Themes. Writing Song Lyrics Is No Different Than Writing Poetry, Although, You Don't Have To Make Sense.
So First Go Somewhere That Inspires You. If Your Trying To Write A Song That Relates To City Life, Go To The City, And Explore Possible Avenues That Might Lead You To What Kind Of Song You Want To Create. If You Want To Write A Song About The Lakes And Clear Blue Skies Of Minnesota, Then Why Not Go There? However That Can Be Pretty Expensive Sometimes, So If You Can't "Go" To The Place Of Origin, Then Just Google It, And Look Up Info About It. But What If You Writing A Song That Has No Place? Let's Say, About Love. [Oh How Original, But They Sell!]
If You Writing A Song About Something That Has No Literal Physicality, Then Just Go Somewhere Where You Can Think. A Living Room Full Of Laughter And Talking Is Not A Good Idea. Go Somewhere Peaceful, And Just Think About What You Want. Try Not To Be Vague. Writing A Song About Puppies Would Be Silly. Why Not Write About Dachshunds Instead. [Because That's Obviously Not Silly.] Either Way, Try To Pick A Topic, Especially One Your Listener Might Be Able To Relate To [Why Love Songs Sell So Good!]
So Let's Say You've Picked Your Topic. For The Sake Of Explanation, We Will Choose The Topic Of: "Surfing The Internet" First Of All Never Pick Your Title 'Til The Song Is Ready To Be Heard. You'll See That Your Ideas Will Change Quite A Lot During The Writing Process. So, Let's First Analyze What Modern "Barn-Burners", Or Amazingly Good Selling Songs Have That Makes Them So Darn Catchy.
