Have an Abortion - Get $5000!
October 23rd 2008 20:31
Theres a bit of hububb in Australia over this issue at the moment, and Ive noticed a common theme on Orble too. But the fact of the matter is, Australia needs to make more mistakes like this. I need the money! Just the other day I was discussing the baby bonus with my boyfriend and wondering how I might get it now rather than in 9 months. Thankfully the government has stepped up - Im not sure what I would have done.
Apparently, the wording of the clause in question is creative enough that the baby bonus applies for late term abortions. There are compassionate grounds that the baby bonus should be paid if the baby is stillborn after 20 weeks, and Im guessing no one thought to say "No Abortions allowed!" hey, that would have been rude. We would offend the pro choicers. So now instead we have offended the pro lifers. The fact is, a late term abortion satisfies the criteria for the baby bonus.
A radio station has already had a woman ring up claiming to know a friend who has done it 3 times. Three times! Thats a house deposit!
Mark Warburton, the Policy manager for Department of families, simply says
Senator Evans isnt worried. He says
Personally, I think this is just an open door into the future. We are in need of a new form of population control and paying women $5000 for an abortion is a great start. The fact that an urban ledgend about it has already begun shall further the cause, and before you know it even the pro lifers will be flocking to get in on this deal.
Its too easy girls - get pregnant, hold it for 20 weeks and then off to the abortion clinic with you. No need to lie or fudge the documents - its all legit so you can do it all with your head held high. Just imagine what you can buy with that FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. Puts stars in your eyes doesnt it girls. Come on, someones already done it 3 times, we gotta catch up! I cant bear to think of all these sisters cashing in and contributing to population control without me!
I know a lot of you out there are really hoping this is a satire. I can say with utter delight and firm smile that it is not. This is a true news story from Yahoo news yesterday. Look it up, then come back and tell me IM sick and twisted.

"Its too costly for Centrelink to change the forms"
and it will be fixed sometime in January, when other forms are re printed.Senator Evans isnt worried. He says
"You dont get paid this by accident...It takes a fairly determined effort"
and right there, he almost sounds like if you are going to purposely get pregnant, so you can purposely abort and gain $5000 you actually deserve the cash. They're always well written, and informative.
There's a real art to writing conversationally in an engaging manner. It's about finding your 'voice'. You've found yours.
Your posts are usually humorous (for a person like me, who likes sick, twisted humour), and if you don't deliberately set out to be funny, there's always something like this:
"Its too costly for Centrelink to change the forms"
That's priceless. It's just so ... Centrelink.

I am not doubting your story at all and am not surprised by this loophole at all, but I was under the impression that the Labor government had changed the baby bonus back to fortnightly installments. No more big lump sum Plasma TV babies?
Priceless considering there is a $14,000 rebate on first home buyers too.. a real *bargain baby!

I most certainly hope so. They aready screwed up to the point where you get a baby bonus when theres no baby.

I gotta be honest with you, its not like Ive checked my sources. I simply read the article which made no mention of the baby bonus being a lump sum or structured payments, and had a friend tell me the figure. I simply wanted to comment on the fact that a baby bonus was available for abortion...
My title may have been inflammatory, but thats what they're for. Today yahoo has 'wife in jail for killing virtual husband' actually she's in jail for violating the property of her real life husband.
A bargain baby indeed...But it makes no difference anymore, money is being thrown all over the place, and still no one can find it.
