Hate is such a strong word... (LINK)

August 23rd 2008 03:40
I've heard this a few times in recent years. People who have felt the deepest core response to anger yet who don't allow themselves to use the label "hate" have often parroted this phrase.

So, they 'seriously dislike' something, or 'intensely dislike' someone...

Same difference, really.
Just labels.

No point denying the experience of anger.

Bottle it up and like a dose of flatulence, it will explode out sooner or later and poison the environs around you.

Reminds me of something I thought about today.

I woke up sooo angry this morning.

Not for one specific reason. There were several events that occurred in the past week that culminated in this one experience of grumpiness when I opened my eyes for another day.

It doesn't concern me overly that I felt like a volcano daring to erupt at the slightest provocation.
I yelled at the cat who chose today to treat the front and back doors like revolving entries... so long as I got up from my PC and just repeatedly opened and closed them to suit her comings and goings.

I cursed at the sink water for splashing over my jeans before I was due to go to the shops.

I swore at the blowfly, that flew in seemingly intentional circles around my head, while I dashed for the fly swat and found the fly spray instead - just as well, because he kept landing on the roof and I couldn't swat him no matter how good a swing I took.

As it was, I sprayed the fly who then snuck out the back door. I finished the dishes and dried the wet spot on my jeans with the hair dryer.

The cat got the hint and decided to stay outdoors for a while, and I went to the shops for a few basic groceries and spent $40 more than I thought I needed to.

All round, my anger was 'managed'.
No one was hurt, I didn't upset anyone, and I have since calmed down somewhat (because part of that extra $40 included a tiny bit of retail therapy... I love a good moisturiser!)

Yet, there is something a little more important to this tale than just the outcome of my grumpy morning.

You may have moments where you are 'angry/ annoyed/frustrated/ p-ssed off/ ready to throttle someone. Whether you like the word "hate" or not, you can't deny normal feelings.
It happens, you're human.
But what if it seems to be your primary expression of personality?

If you're like me, you might be a little ashamed to admit that yes, your typical manner is one of directness, abruptness, command and demand, frustration, fast-action and even faster thinking. You may even accept that you're not exactly a people person, and have probably been classified as a "Type A" personality close to the point of inducing a heart attack in yourself given the extent of how stressed you can become.

Well, all is not lost - it was never really lost anyway. It was more just misunderstood.
Move over, Type A... there is more to this personality thing than meets the eye.

You can find out more about your personality style and how it really does impact you on a daily basis.

There is a tab to the left for a Free Mini Profile... it isn't the full deal, but it is fun and a quick insight into some basics on this personality thing.

The good thing I like about it is that when I learned more about my personality style, I found I could explain away why I am such a feral-tempered person at times. Just knowing it seemed to make me feel less stressed about it. I also learned that having this level of insight has peeled away yet another layer of that 'onion' - just like Shrek.
