EMILY DICKINSON was born on this day, december 10, 1830 at Homestead, Amherst, Massachusetts,USA. She had a rather good education given the overall conditions of females in those times. She attended the then famous ,AMHERST ACADEMY and Mount Holyobrok Seminary and had her basic education.
Emily Dickinson was quite a kind of Socialite in her youth and had lots of friends that included two suitors too. But, Dickinson remained unmarried all through her life. She might have some love affairs as there are a good many love poems penned by her.

It's the sombre themes of loss, death and parting that characterize her poems in the main and establish her an a very very important poet.
Dickinson's exuberence of early youth finally gave way to sort of something like self imposed isolation and her such nature of being a recluse had the profoundest bearings on her verse.
She had lost a couple of very near and dear friends and relatives during her early youth and her house was near to the town cemetery. DEATH she observed closely and the impact of it was so deep upon her psyche that she had started to visualize her own death and tried to willy nilly its effects through her poetry.

She couldn't get more than a handful of her poems published during her life time and remained largely obscure.
It was only after her death in 1886 that her poems were found plus collected by her sister and friends and ultimately saw the light of the world.
There was humble views for her poems in initial years of publications .
But, She was to make her voice heard and during the late 40s n early 50s, her works went through sort of metamorphosis.
EMILY DICKINSON,BY 1950s (almost 6 decades after her death) , BECAME ONE OF THE GREATEST FEMALE POETS OF ALL TIME ! And, That impact still goes on !
EMILY DICKINSON GOT A PERMANENT PLACE IN THE LISTS OF POETS WRITING IN ENGLISH.
