Gutterpunk Scumbags and IPods: UPDATED

January 17th 2007 07:52
Wow. First I would like to say that I am normally a very nice person. In all fairness, I don't even know for absolute certainty that I wrote the following post last night. I think I blacked out from the rage. Take what you are about to read, with a measure of understanding that I am just a mom, pissed off, because someone did something wrong to my child. Okay? I guess what I am saying...is still respect me in the end. *smile*

What the hell are people teaching their kids anymore???

There are a lot of kids who call themselves my daughter's friends. I prefer to call them scum sucking trailor trash...but I digress. My daughter isn't trashy, nothing of the kind, and she is the sweetest, nicest kid you would ever want to meet. I don't say that lightly. I am not one of THOSE moms, at all. Anyhoo...

For Christmas this year, I bought my daughter a white IPod Nano 2GB, with a pretty pink leather carrying case. Nothing fancy. All I know is that I worked my ass off for a couple of days to buy it. That, and I was more excited about giving her that gift than I was any other gift I bought anyone for Christmas. She wanted one so bad she couldn't stand it.

Did I tell my daughter not to take it to school? Sure did.

Did I tell her it would get stolen if she did? Of course.

Did it get stolen when she took it to school anyways? Yep, of course, it sure did.

Here is what pisses me off, besides the fact that it was brand new and some trailor-trash, scum-sucking, sloping foreheaded, street hood is out there walking around listening to whatever Mercedes had on it because I refuse to believe they are smart enough to figure out how to download music on it. (I have a 4.0 and I can barely figure it out.)- Besides that, they stole it in front of a security camera. (Yes, I am going to the school tomorrow to see if there is a chance they still have the tapes from that day.) Anyhoo...not the sharpest tack in the box, are they?

And besides that, there are parents out there who absolutely know that no one gave it, or sold it or traded it, or lost it and their kid just happened to be having a really lucky day and got themselves a brand new, three weeks after Christmas, IPod. The scum-sucking fruit doesn't fall far from the scum-sucking tree, am I right?

Somewhere out there, a parent knows their trailor-trash, scum-sucking, street hood, posterchild-for-abortion kid is also a sticky-fingered, little waste of space, and their parents don't care.

(Don't even start on the value of human life, either...and how all kids have potential. That's a load of crap. I mean, all kids have potential. That's true enough. Some are destined for greatness and some are destined to pray for a promotion to fry cook. It's the truth and you know it.)

Now, let me give you a scenario of a little trick I would use if one of my children turned into one of those kids...

"Where did you get that?"

See, how easy that is? Didn't even see it coming, did you? A question. Wouldn't take two seconds to figure out that something was going on. If they gave me the old, someone gave it, lost it, traded it, sold it line...this is what I would do next.

"What's their last name and do you have a phone number? I am going to call the parents and make sure they know this took place. I don't want you to be accused of anything."

Parenting is difficult, sure. Sometimes, no matter what you teach them, they may go their own way...but you ARE the boss of them...but if your kid is stealing from my kid...I'm not cutting you any slack.

Somewhere out there is a kid, described as above, and parents of said kid, that know perfectly well that the IPod is hot...and equal and opposite to that is one parent who if she ever sees your child out in public with her daughter's IPod...will strangle your little gutterpunk with the the cord of one of the earbuds while listening to Christina Aguilera on the other one while she does it.

Be warned.

UPDATE:
This is a bit of a techy post, but I am so blown away by this it isn't funny. I called the school and the security camera is a bust, they have already taped over the tape. The principal asks me to call him with the Serial Number of the IPod and he will do some confiscating of IPods and compare the serial numbers.

I come home from work to get the serial number. OH MY God. I can't find it. I panic. I find the first number to Apple, not caring if it is the right department, and tell them what I need.

The rep, Jennifer, says "Okay...let's see what we can do. We have some new technology available for reasons like this, because they get stolen all the time."

So, she asks me if Mercedes' Ipod is the last one that was connected to our computer, which I confirmed. So, we go to this site on Apple and there is a link that says, Upload Last Connected IPod serial number!! I was so excited.

Well, it didn't work for some reason. So I was all upset and Jennifer says, "Let's try something else." She gives me the instructions and I went into Itunes and clicked on Edit, Preferences and Ipod. The words, 'No Ipod Connected' were at the top of the page. I click on those words, even though it's not even a link and it says, "Last Ipod connected serial number: and MERCEDES SERIAL NUMBER was there!!

How freakin star trek is that?? (Don't roll your eyes at me, Ahmed. lol) I will let you know what or if we find out anything.

Maybe he/she is hiding it from his/her parents.

I thought that too...makes it even worse doesn't it?

Ahmed and Tracy,
Could be...that's why I plan on calling several of her friends parents tonight and ask them to ask their children if they see the Ipod, to let me know. At least they will have to be more diligent about hiding it. They will screw up eventually. However, it does seem unlikely. They would have to charge it, etc. It's more likely that the family just doesn't want to ask questions.

I am also offering a reward at the school to anyone who provides information leading to its return. *smile*

Sure, I could just go buy another one but I just want to make things difficult for whoever has it to use it.

I wouldn't buy another one, in fact, I'd make your daughter pay for the one you got her, teach her a lesson

It might be more likely that it's not one of her friends, surely (and hopefully) they wouldn't do that to her. I hope not....

Offering a reward sounds like a good idea, it's good to be seen doing something about these situations rather than simply accepting it.

Good luck.

Ahmed,
The first thing my daughter said to me was that she would get a job and pay me back. She felt terrible. Like I said, she is a good kid. Yes, she broke a rule of ours, but right now, I am focused on the thief that took it.

Tracy,
We are pretty sure at this point that we know who stole it, but we will see. If we find out who did, I do not care how old they are, I will press charges. Teach them a lesson if they were arrested in front of everyone.

Hmm... built in moral guilt. If only all kids came with that.

Ahmed,
If all kids were born witht hat, we wouldn't be having this discussion. In a perfect world, Ahmed, in a perfect world...
