Group Blogs
September 28th 2006 05:04
Announcing the arrival of Group Blogs where any number of people can contribute to a single blog.
A simple example can be seen here.
All the members of a blog are listed in the blog menu (under "Group Test Members" in this example) and are able to publish posts at any time. You can invite people to join your blog using either their email address or Orble Tag and people can also apply to join. You will soon have the ability to make a group blog invite only.
Applications to join a blog can be approved by any member -- although we are considering limiting this to the blog owner only. If you have thoughts on this post them below. Only the blog owner can kick a current member out.
Revenue from a group blog will still be reported to just one person -- the owner -- who can share it with the other members, keep it for themselves, donate it to charity, whatever. We can provide metrics -- post stats -- voting stats -- traffic -- etc to help with revenue sharing and distribute payments between members if required. Unfortunately we cannot break down revenue stats on a post-by-post basis or provide online revenue stats for individual members at the moment -- it's in the works. Again any suggestions appreciated.
You can make your current blog a group blog by going to your blog's modify page and choosing "Yes" to "Allow Members". Click on the "Members" link to start inviting people to join. If you want to maintain the quality of your blog I suggest you only allow people to join who you know will do a good job.
You can start up a new Group Blog any time in the usual way. If anyone would like to start a group Domain blog either send your idea to apply@orble.com or start up a regular Orble blog and you will be promoted in the usual way after a couple of weeks.
The main idea behind the a group blog is to share the work load of regular posting which is very important to a blog's success. Also instead of writing on one particular subject writers can contribute to any number of different topics on different blogs.
Thoughts and comments appreciated.
Thanks all,
Jon.
