Poor Honduras, trying to protect its country from a left wing/communist take over. I hope they didn't expect to get any support from the US gov't, which has a long history of abusing allies and rewarding its enemies. If your a tyrant, like North Korea, just start building a nuke and suddenly we are offering free oil, food, commercial goods, etc. But, if your like Honduras and want to prevent the circumventing of your constitution by left wing fanatics, please don't look to us for any support. In fact, we will condemn you for being proactive in protecting your democracy. Tell you what, after you become another Castro/Chavez like dictatorship, then we will send diplomats to stroke your villainous leaders and offer incentives so you will be our friends again. Maybe after 50 years of that there will be some small changes in your country, like Castro finally allowing Cuban citizens to finally own cell phones and buy microwave ovens earlier this year. That wasn't too hard, only took 50 years. BUT the nerve of your freely elected congress, (who swore an oath to protect their constitution, not their president), to take action on your own, without US consent, well, its just not done.
I hope they learn their lesson. Maybe they already have, by reviewing the sad history of fallen democracies (Vietnam, Burma, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Russia, china, Germany, all the eastern European countries post WWII, and almost all African nations) who didn't act promptly to stop these dictators when they had a chance. Some of these nations clawed back their freedom and re-established democracies, others never will.
I say ROCK ON HONDURAS! More power to your congress with backing by your military. Or at least as much as your constitution allows...

mesmerized

June 29th 2009 20:19
I've been mesmerized to watch the mass media machine churn over and over minutiae concerning celebrity deaths, but almost nothing of value concerning the cap and trade bill that passed in the House. Small mention, barely a footnote on this sweeping tax bill that will effect every American, from the increases of every electric bill in the country, to the cost of food production and transportation.
Is the American intellect so shallow that this is the level of news we demand from news services or is the mass media delivering what they think Americans want, assuming incorrectly that Americans are morons?
I really don't know. Maybe most Americans feel helpless, feel that since they have no real say in what is happening, that they don't care anymore. I have friends who say that they feel as if they have been caught in a tornado, its all they can do to deal with their own personal challenges. "The politicians are going to do whatever they want to, we have no say". I share their feelings.
When the ship is sinking, its time to think exclusively on your own personnel survival. We are all watching the cost of gas again, holding our breathes, fearing a 4 plus dollar a gallon. And who isn't worried about job loss? Not congress. After a person gets elected to the Senate, they have a very generous retirement plan. Full pay, free chauffeured transportation, use of the congressional gym, free mail, shops that offer special discount prices, free plants for theirs office, free travel to and from home states(Pelosi gets to use a gov't jet for her own exclusive use), special subways, elevators and many more perks await.
Sounds fair, since they work a grueling 3 days a week (that's what it averages out to be). That's how may days congress will be in session this year. And every year, its been shrinking. Ever wonder why most bills never get read? Because most senators are hardly ever in session. Empty chairs.
Bottom line, the average American works 250 days per year, the average Senator works 100 days less. Pathetic. Shame on them.
I wonder what the world thinks of this congress and the spending/borrowing spree going on? Russia and China are now pushing for a world currency, trying desperately to get away from the U.S. dollar. I don't blame them. Is hyper inflation around the corner? How much will a loaf of bread cost next year?
Watch Europe. France and England are trying to switch from socialist agendas to a more conservative societies. Why? Because socialism didn't work for them. They are tired of double digit unemployment and high taxes. We are diving right into the same trap that Europe is trying to climb out of.
Are we to be the Lemmings of the world? Lets play follow the leader, running right off a cliff into oblivion.
Well, I'm taking a deep breath. Lets hope for the best, just pray we can hang on.
I remember a time when we Americans looked forward to the future. Who can say that now? Can we maintain our standard of living? Will our children suffer for Wall Streeters greed? Undoubtedly. Its already happened. How did Wall Steeters suffer for this greed? They got nice, big bailouts that allowed them to increase their bloated paychecks. Because they are special, we are told. The nation can't survive without them. A base canard, in my opinion. But, the rich protect the rich, so what can we expect? God forbid if their standard of living/social statis gets effected. I would'nt cry a single tear if it did.
There is an old chinese curse "May you live in interesting times". Well, we are no doubt living the curse.

USA Impotent?

June 22nd 2009 16:56
So now we have a ship that we fear is carrying IRBM's (IRBM stand for Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile) and other, possibly nuclear, weapons. The U.S. navy has been tracking this ship and have concluded that it is heading for Burma, a subject of one of my blogs. Are we going to just follow this ship around impotently like idiots, looking the fools? Military force is not required to stop a ship that size, another ship can simply drop large nets into its path and foul its props. Once fouled, that ship isn't going anywhere, trust me. So we don't have to pump 5 inch shells into its engine room hoping to disable it. Under new U.N. mandates, we or any other power like England, France, Germany, Italy, etc. can stop and inspect this ship, but as usual its up to us to safeguard the world from the maniacs.
We definitely don't want Union of Myanmar (formerly Burma) to get these missiles. A more evil govt I can't imagine, very dangerous and cruel. That govt wouldn't hesitate to use any means against its population to stay in power.
BTW, if you have any interest in Burma, check out this web site: Really Long Link This web page covers the bare facts on Burma, but its clear there is a militatry junta in control. Many call the regime a "barbaric military rulers" who have no belief in human rights.
Not a nice vacation spot, trust me.
So we will continue to follow this ship around, afraid to touch it as it delivers death to another country, squashing any hope to its people of ever getting freedom.

U.S. census survey

June 20th 2009 14:20
Here's something chilling: the U.S. Census Survey. Even U.S. House of Representative Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann has publicly announced that she will refuse to answer any questions beyond her name and the number of people in her domicile. So I thought, ¨what can be so intrusive about this census that she is so riled up¨? WOW. Check out this copy of the survey and you can see for yourself how in depth and intrusive it is (12 pages!). Follow link: Really Long Link It is in PDF form, so you will need Adobe PDF reader. After about page 3, this survey takes a odd turn. Now the Gov´t wants to know how many acres your homes on, if you have a garden and if you´ve sold anything from that garden and how much. Well, the list goes on, you can read it for yourself. Obviously, the Gov´t is over reaching in its questions.
I would imagine many of my older friends who have lived through previous census surveys will rebel at answering any more questions then on pages 1-3. that's the great thing about being older and wiser (crotchety?). They don´t have any hesitation at telling authority figures where to go.
I am meeting with a couple older fellows later today for lunch and I will give each one a copy of this census, all 12 pages. I will report back to you what their reactions are. It might profit the Gov´t to conduct a similar survey before this debacle takes place, so maybe it can rethink the scope of its inquiries.

Iranian gov´t collapse

June 18th 2009 18:24
Man, the pot is cooking now! The people of Iran are no dummies and they know when they have been lied to and cheated. The difference between them and lets say, the russians is that they have the guts and determination to stand up and face down their leaders.
The lack of U.S. gov´t response should´nt be suprising. If good ´ol Ronnie Reagan was still around, he would immediatly tell the Iranian people that we are with them, that we support them in spirit and hope they prevail. Why? It would simply be the right thing to do. Let the Mullahs scream their heads off that the U.S. gov´t is ¨unfairly¨ inferfering with their internal politics. They demonize the U.S. and its people every day, what about that?
Regardless, we as a people and a gov´t should support all countries that yearn for honest, free elections.

Puppy Linux, too cool

June 13th 2009 17:10
Never heard of Puppy Linux? Shame, shame. You´ve been missing out then. Check it out at www.puppylinux.org. A small distribution at 100mb´s, it is none the less packed with everything you will need to get up and running. Need more programs? Use the Puppy Package Manager to graphically download and install what you need. Still don´t see what floats your boat? Then check out the puplets page Really Long Link and download a Puppy that has been modded to suit a particular need. I find game puppies and music puppies and spanish puppies, and anon. Got an older Pentium II? Try Teenpup2009, you´ll like it, a cool desktop and tons of programs. Just download the ISO and burn it to a cdr. Boot her up, respond to a couple of setup questions and bingo! your off and running. It doesn't even affect your hard drive or any data on it if you run from the CD.
There is a forum page that helps with any question or hardware issue you might Really Long Link
And when you have played around with it and want to install this o.s. to your hard drive, first read the instructions on the forum site. Just make sure you´ve backed up any files that are critical to you, in case you goober up. I used an old PIII as a practice P.C. until I became proficient. And Puppy is great to dual boot with, easy to set up. So if you want to choose between windows or Puppy, no problem.

June 13th 2009 15:48
Ah, Linux, how I love your easily configured operating system! You feed my starving ego by allowing me to mod your programs and desktop. Everyday that I play coyly with your system files and menu´s to create something unique, to become an offspring of our odd union.
Oh, come to me and allow me to strip away your plainness and add interesting programs and apps until your a shining tribute to my genious. Widgets? sure. A wbar?, hell, yes. lets add skype and openoffice3, in fact lets personalize the entire desktop so that we merge our personalities. the two shall become the one.
you came to me a standard edition, something that anyone can download. Now you POP and SIZZLE like a star. promise you´ll never leave me?

and the bulb goes out...

June 13th 2009 15:06
Have you ever been in a dark room, no windows and there is a bright 100watt light bulb on? If you turn off the bulb, you will see an eery glow that rapidly but steadily diminishes in brightness until there is absolute darkness. Well, we are living in the afterglow of that bright burning light we called freedom and democracy. Its a faint glow and soon the darkness will seize us all. Why am I so certain, so fatalistic? Because I don´t see anyone taking the necessary action required to save the republic from the disaster approaching. I see gobs of money being thrown around, because money can solve any problem, right? so lets throw 50 billion to the auto industry, but not fix the inept management and production of unwanted models of cars. Heck, lets put a retired communications CEO in charge of a major auto manufacturer, that ought to fix the problem. Even he admits he knows nothing about the auto industry, but, hey, if he can run AT&T, then he can run anything. Oh, and while we are at it, lets cripple the last industry in this country that still works and put a tax on cow farts. Yep, tax farmers for their barn yard animals because they produce methane. NUTS. Can you imagine our fathers generation giving in to such sanfransico insanity? They would have laughed these people back to the obscurity where they belong. Instead, these nut cases are being taken seriously and this tax will probably pass. A one hundred dollar plus tax on every cow, lamb, pig in the country. Well, that ought to do it, push the already struggling farmers into liquidation. We will look back at this period of time and call it...what? the year madness ruled? the loss of total common sense? Or maybe when Americans forgot that this was their country and their individual responability to safegaurd what others around the world are envious of. The shame is ours, but its our children who will pay.
Let me know what you think, please don´t just read this, but leave your comments and lets start the dialoge rolling. thank you. God bless all.

No due process?

June 12th 2009 20:23
Amazing stuff, yesterday (June11), it was revealed that the u.s gov´t was seizing bank account associated with on-line gambling. WHAT? No due process, no notification, just wham! their moneys been seized. Who was in charge of that brain fart? This was reported in Drudgereport and after carefully reading the article, i was stunned. Now, I don´t have any special affection for on-line gamblers, hey, if that's what they want to do, more power to them. From everything that I have read about gambling, your gonna lose dollars for every one dollar you win. So to me, its a suckers bet. BUT, no matter who it is, there has to be due process. Whats the next step if they get away with this?
Imagine if this happened to you. You go to withdraw money from your checking account and the ATM says your out of funds. When you ask the teller, they inform you that your account has been siezed. Suprise! What recourse would you have, calling your local attorney and spend thousands to reclaim your money?
Is this a feeler by the administration, a test run? ¨hey, lets see what we can get away with! We´ll start with online gambling (nobody cares about them, who´s gonna stick up for them!) and see where that takes us.¨

Things are gonna get froggy!

June 10th 2009 15:00
What, am I the first to say it out loud? So be it. For better or worse, we are witness to the collapse of the American empire that has ruled the economy of the world since the end of WWII. I believe its for the worse my self and that the many generous acts that the U.S.A. has committed itself to in the past will go unnoticed. Maybe the real question is which world power will rush in to seize the crown from America? China seems to be the only one capable of filling the role right now, but this collapse will probably take another 5-10 years to complete. In that time, Russia will try to reintegrate its fallen empire or even consume other democracies in western Europe. Can´t happen you say? Think back just 2 years ago and imagine if someone had told you that GM would go bankrupt or that the free market system would be subsidized a trillion dollars from China. Or that the most liberal senator in congress would become president.
We needed to stop the liberal fascism that was running rampant through our society 20 years ago, but we were content to ignore the danger and say ¨Well, its not up to me. I am not going to put myself out there." Now our kids are taught to be ashamed of our country and ridiculed and ostracized for having a belief in God. Actually made to feel like they are breaking the law if they mention God in school!
Beware the fool who says ¨I am a citizen of the world¨. And any politician who doesn't put America first should be thrown out of office, tarred and feathered.

on Nasty Pelosi and the Freedom of Information Act

June 13th 2009 15:15
When your right, your right. but she knows that these pictures will not be released now, she is just making noise to placate her far left wing nut case supporters in the land of fantasy, california. the real danger is that this women is third in line to the presidency and considers herself a ¨citizen of the world¨. Hey, be proud of being an american first, lady! I also believe that if she had an honest assesment by a shrink, he would find that she has had a lapse, a break with reality. in other words, shes nuts!
