Great Road Trip Songs
June 22nd 2007 04:24
I love to take road trips and drive with the windows rolled down and the moon roof open...especially in beautiful weather like today blaring my favorite music. When I travel, I like to put together iPod groupings that fit the theme or motif of my travels. I adore these "musical pilgrimages. During my last last trip through the South I put together some of my Southern Fried favorites: Allman Brothers, Little Feat, Kings of Leon, Skynrd, SRV, James Gang, Ryan Adams, Slobberbone, The Band, Drive by Truckers, Black Crowes, The Outlaws, ... just to name a few.

I'd pick Jackson Browne's 'Loadout' before 'Running on Empty' (and since 'Stay' runs into it? Add 'Stay' as well). And the fact that it's written about and for roadies? Road trips are so long. I at least want to start them in a calm mood, and the Loadout does it for me.

Not Nickleback (as my daughter found out on the last trip to Grandads *lol*)...
This mornign I was thinking about my next trip to visit my aging ole' Dad - about six hours away by road. It seems that stuff that epitomises the open spaces of Australia still appeals years on.
Aussie stuff I'm not sure you'll know, but I'm sure you'd like them...
The River, by Shane Howard
Spirit of Place by Goanna
and I love Shaun Mullins as his songs are so pictorial. Little stories of lives as they appear and disappear... I get lost in his lyrics and the time passes faster.
I like pink Floyd too ...well Roger Waters album : The Pros and COns of HItchiking, v. funny.
After all that yahooing – in between - I like some chill music too, particularly a two-piece duo from Germany in an album recently released, called Vargo. Can't recommend it enough to you for chilling and 'Getting Back to Serenity. (Actual title of a song there). Great for long traffic jams...
My other favourite is called Celtic Dreamtime. It's a project that amalgamates the harp with the Didgeridoo…absolutely magical… feel like I'm flying along with the elementals...through the mist, on Prancer, on Dasher, Vixen Prancer... etc etc *lol*
going now to mop the floors...

Went to the band's website. They seem pretty mellow. Great for lazy day listening
