All the novelty events take place, the 3-point contest, slam dunk contest, etc. Action starts back up on Tuesday of next week. Next Wednesday, the schedule brings along a couple of interesting games. Oklahoma City travels to Philadelphia, Portland at Denver, and San Antonio hosting Chicago.
The San Antonio Spurs came back in dramatic fashion to force overtime on Saturday night versus the Los Angeles Clippers. The team went onto win the game, 103-100. During the game, the Spurs however lost two players to injury.
Shooting guard Manu Ginobili and center Tiago Splitter were both injured in the victory, San Antonio's 10th straight on the season. Ginobili was in his 4th game back after missing 22 games earlier this season after breaking his hand. Ginobili was averaging 13 points per game this season.
Clippers guard Chris Paul threw the ball away, leading to a Gary Neal three-pointer and the overtime. Paul trying not to turn the ball over on a bad inbounds pass, tossed the ball into the waiting hands of Neal who calmly drained a three-pointer with five seconds remaining. The play took mere seconds to unfold.
San Antonio commanded the action in the overtime, keyed by another Neal triple. Tony Parker led the way for the Spurs, with 30 points and 10 assists. Blake Griffin had 22 points and 20 rebounds for the Clippers in the loss.
The New Orleans Hornets upended the New York Knicks, 89-85, ending the team from the big apple's winning streak. The Hornets improved to 7-23 with the surprising victory. Jeremy Lin finished with 26 points and five assists in the loss.
New York fell to 15-16 this year.
Lin also committed nine costly turnovers, aiding the Hornets cause. Amare Stoudemire returned from his absence, him and Lin worked well off and on, though you could tell Lin was forcing things. The Knicks also struggled from the three point line, connecting on four of 24 attempts. The Hornets were just the opposite, connecting on seven of 12 attempts from behind the three-point line.
Trevor Ariza led the Hornets with 25 points, and guard Marco Belinelli added 17 points.
New York plays Dallas tomorrow, in a game that will be featured on ABC.
6th-ranked Ohio State at 19th-ranked Michigan: Ohio State (22-4) beat Michigan in the teams first meeting this season, don't expect anything else here as the Buckeyes are superior to the Wolverines in every aspect. Michigan (19-7) has a talented squad, led by Tim Hardaway Jr., they just struggle with dominating big men in the middle. Jared Sullinger will have his way for Ohio State.
11th-ranked UNLV at New Mexico: UNLV (22-5) and New Mexico (21-4) in a huge Mountain West encounter. New Mexico is first in the Mountain West with a 7-2 mark, while UNLV is right behind at 6-3. The Runnin' Rebels are led by Mike Moser who is hard to stop down low. New Mexico is keyed by guard Kendall Williams who averages 12.5 points per game. I like the Lobos in a minor upset to win

One day after the New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin scored 20 points, and had eight assists and six rebounds, one has to wonder will his fiery stretch continue?
In his first four starting appearances, the guard has totaled 109 points. This is the most in NBA history, topping Allen Iverson by eight points. Shaquille O'Neal scored just 100 points in his first four starts, Michael Jordan: 99 points. Lin triumphs over them all. Will this continue

12th-ranked Michigan State at 3rd-ranked Ohio State: A plethora of good games on Saturday, headed by this Big Ten showdown. Michigan State(19-5) are up and down on the season, while Ohio State(21-3) has been consistently around the top of the rankings. I like the Buckeyes to prevail as they have too much strength down low with Jared Sullinger in the middle.
6th-ranked Baylor at 4th-ranked Missouri: Huge Big 12-game, both teams just had a classic game on Jan. 21st that saw Missouri beating the previously unbeaten Bears. Baylor is 21-3 and Missouri has a 22-2 mark on the season. Missouri is led by forward Marcus Denmon who averages 18 points per outing. Perry Jones is the man for Baylor. Will be a great game again, though I like Baylor to find a way to win
