God's Reasoning
January 10th 2011 19:58
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
-Isaiah 1:18 (King James Version)
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
-Isaiah 55:6-8 (King James Version)
This morning I looked out my window at a blindingly bright snow covering the ground. It was so white that it hurt my eyes to look at it. The bright, crisp, cold snow reminded me of Isaiah 1:18.
This scripture has been haunting me all day. How could a God who is so far beyond our finite human understanding love us so much? It's beyond anything we could ever say or do. And yet, he requires so little of us compared to the great sacrifice that he made of sending his son Jesus to die brutally upon the cross for our sins.
This goodness of God is so beyond reason to me, but it makes perfect sense to a God who IS LOVE. God is real love, not the things we have been told that love is all of our lives. He selflessly gives of Himself to help us in an effort to show us that real, true, genuine love is more about giving than it is about receiving.
My challenge to you today is to reflect upon the goodness of God and to take comfort in knowing that he has empowered you to overcome the sin that is staining your life and to achieve the perfect purity that he has for your heart. Trust in him today and make that effort to seek and strive after his perfect plan for your life. Be that person of purity that he has called you to be. Live in his love, freedom, hope and joy.
