God Created You to be You

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb [emphasis mine]. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
-Psalm 113: 13-18 (New International Version)
For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
-Jeremiah 29:11(New Living Translation)
I remember when I was a little girl watching my grandmother knit. One stitch at a time she carefully and mysteriously (at least mysteriously in my tiny, inquisitive mind) moved the knitting needles back and forth and around in just the right pattern to create a beautiful piece of clothing or some other craft project to give to someone else.
Looking back with a more mature perspective I can see that my grandmother was putting so much more than just the raw materials of yarn and knitting needles into her work. She was investing her time and a bit of her heart and soul. Certainly there were other tasks she could be doing, but she enjoyed creating and sharing her knitted creations. It blessed her heart to bless other people.
I think God is the same way. He creates each of us with a specific purpose and destiny in mind. He has certain people whose lives he wants us to touch in certain ways. He sees the end result for our lives even when we only see some raw materials. Trust God today. Believe that he knew what he was doing when he created you. Let go of your preconceived notions about yourself and your life and what you can and can't do and let him define who you are and what you can and will do. Follow his lead even when it doesn't make sense. Trust him and he will do an awesome work in you.
