GO PARRA!!...we hope

UP THE EELS

This is yet another NRL season packed with upsets and excitement.

It has seen the Cowboys, who led the competition with a perfect record of 6/6 in the opening rounds, manage only four more wins in the remaining 19 games to finish 10th or worse if they lose in round 26.

Parramatta was another shock story. They sat second last on the ladder just 11 games from the end of the season and looked to challenge the disappointing Rabbitohs for the Wooden Spoon. In just his fifth week at the helm, (with already one win under his belt), coach Jason Taylor ignited the boys to signal a mid season revival; one which saw them rocket into the top four with 9 consecutive wins. A victory against the Bronco’s would have all but secured the top four spot they dared to dream of but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Clearly missing their captain, Nathan Cayless, plus most of their forward pack, and halfback Jeremy Smith; the Eels couldn’t even manage to cross their opposition’s line.

The alarm bells are ringing now as their curse resurfaces. In the past few years, the Eels have a tendency to lose form right around finals time. In 2001 they were tall favourites to take the premiership, however Newcastle played, as the commentators put it “a flawless game” in the grand final to steal the victory.

In 2004 they only just missed the eight after another poor finish and in 2005 they were the minor premiers. This time it was the Cowboys who ended their season after a dismal semi-final performance by the Eels.

It seems they play their best when people believe in them the least. So “Go Parra” to all you fans who know they can do it this year, just don’t tell them that.

Being a diehard Parra supporter, even I will concede that their will probably only be 2 weeks left of our season.
We should beat the Cowboys, but I think that we will be lining up against the Bulldogs in our semi, and as much as I would love to see us smash them, realistically I know we haven't got the forward firepower to match them.
BUT, please prove me wrong boys, and if we can get through to week 3 of the semi's, than with the return of Fuifui, Tahu and hopefully Cayless, than I firmly beleive that we will take out this years title!!
