Go Daddy.Com Bowl Preview
January 7th 2012 23:31
After the wildcard games are finished for the day, another bowl game arrives. The Go Daddy.Com Bowl game is one of the few games on the docket of bowls that pits two conference champions against one another. Arkansas State, champion of the Sun Belt Conference, faces Northern Illinois, champion from the Mid-American Conference.
Arkansas State(10-2) has won nine straight games, while Northern Illinois(10-3) has taken eight straight. The last time Arkansas State tasted defeat was Sept.17th against Virginia Tech. The Red Wolves have been on a tear, and it all starts with a great defense, that only gives up 19 points per game. Sun Belt defensive player of the year, Brandon Joiner anchors the defense, ranking amongst the nations leaders with 12 sacks. Quarterback Ryan Aplin has passed for 3,235 passing yards and 18 touchdowns, plus leads the team in rushing yards with 625. Assistant coach David Gunn will coach for this game, after former head coach Hugh Freeze left for Mississippi. Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Molzahn will take over the head coaching job next season.
Northern Illinois have one of the nation's top quarterbacks in Chandler Harnish. Harnish has passed for 2,932 yards, and 26 touchdowns. Plus he leads the team in rushing yards at 1,382 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has set 20 new school records. Senior running back Jasmin Hopkins has rushed for 932 yards.
A game of strength versus strength. A great Huskies offense that averages 48 points per game, against the Arkansas State defense that doesn't give up much points. The Huskies offensive line will have their hands full against the Red Falcons defensive line. I like Arkansas State to win by at least seven.
