Giving advice to Pastor Phelps on why not to attack the dead
January 28th 2008 01:51
Dear Pastor Phelps,
Forgive me for writing to you in this way but you seem to need a little help in terms of your shooting from the hip. It is quite apparent that in your "shooting" you only have the one bullet and this time you have slipped quite badly and you now have your foot stuck in your mouth.
Just like you I am a Christian (although with some of your rants you seem to be proving me wrong with your beliefs) just like you I am conservative where gay rights are concerned (okay so I'm not as far right as you are) but you seem to take homophobia to a whole new despicable level.
Pastor, I would have thought that in your profession that you were to preach the good news of Christ. I honestly thought that you are in the business of building up God's kingdom by making the world a better place by talking about the goodness of Christ's love and His healing power to a society that needs to hear His word. I don't remember Jesus ever hating on gays as much as you do. You seem intent sir on bringing more hatred and more strife into a world that already has too much hatred and too much strife. I don't understand why the only thing that can come out of your church is homophobia. In case you have forgotten let me remind you that as a "sin", homosexuality is no worse in God's eyes than lying or stealing.
I'm not sure why you have chosen to speak ill of the late Heath Ledger. Okay so he played a gay cowboy. Do you need to be reminded that he was an actor whose job it was to play someone other than who he was? You have broken a cardinal rule of society of speaking ill of the dead. That is very poor form Pastor, very poor form. Who is next for you now? Elton John? The cast of the "L word"? Ellen Degeneres? Oh wait, you can't attack them yet because they're not dead!
If you were consistent why don't you picket writer JK Rowling for writing Harry Potter - a whole series on witchcraft and sorcery? What about actual living Hollywood actors or actresses for their lasviscious and scandalous behaviour? Did you ever picket showtime for "Queer as folk?" or NBC for "Will and Grace"? How about some of the game console makers for making violent video games for young people? What about targeting the porn industry? On the flipside too you should start being part of the solution instead of being part of the problem. How about actually counselling gay and lesbian people? How about concentrating on helping the needy and the homeless instead of picking on a guy who can't even defend himself now.
On top of that you then call an entire nation "Sodom". Beg your pardon sir then what do you call Spain? I just ask because they seem pretty lenient there in terms of gay rights. I take it you have forgotten San Francisco or other the places in your own country that have permitted gay marriage. I have a suggestion, what you can do is get on a plane to Norway or Holland and try and preach one of your sermons there. They'd lock you up as soon as you leave the pulpit. In the end your hatemongering (which is what it is) is just as bad as any racist or muslim extremist who preaches death and destruction.
Which God do you serve Pastor? A God that is just and loving, or a fallen angel that finds joy in creating pain, hurt, discomfort and misery? I figure you might want to ask that in your devotionals either tonight or in the morning.
