Give us Today Our Daily Bread
August 1st 2010 18:41
It is all very well to ask God to provide us with our needs. Sometimes we can get greedy or just plain selfish. Take for instance the prodigal son.
Give me my share of mine inheritance was the cry from his heart. I want it now, he says to his father. Scripture tells us what happened next. He was given wealth no doubt to teach him a lesson. From being a rich man’s son, he became that of a beggar. He became so poor he ended up eating that which the pigs ate.
There have been times of desperation in my own life when I have asked for large sums of money. To be honest I am still waiting, and although it is somewhat hard to say, I am glad it did not happen. Besides, pig food is an acquired taste.
For a time I worked in a pig farm. The owner paid me with a pig of my choice each month. If you must know, we actually had bacon and the odd pork chop. What the pigs ate never came into the equation. Lets just say it had an aroma all of its own.
In my experience, God will provide needs that will assist his will for my life. At this time, my calling is not that of a multi millionaire, or a pig farmer. Instead, he has fashioned me to become someone who loves the Lord. Who tries his best to be obedient to that small quiet voice of the Holy Spirit?
