Give Us This Day

Give us this day our daily bread
Right now, it is 6:00am in my country-New Zealand. I am getting ready for Promise Keepers. My wife is going off to be with the grandchildren while I am away. She is Maori and always likes to take something with her in the way of food. To Hine it is a cultural thing. We argued about it.
After a long discussion, about two days, we readily agreed she should take two chickens. We have been away in Dunedin for a month and have come home broke. After several rewrites, our grocery list becomes affordable.
As I walk up toward the supermarket, I put my hand in my coat pocket to keep warm and I find some paper. Turns out it is a twenty-dollar bill. A man had given it to me in church that Sunday night. The price of two chickens at the supermarket is twenty-three dollars.
Another man rings me up and politely tells me I am going to Promise Keepers and someone will pay my way. I really enjoy getting out with the people so it is all good. My wife likes my home baked bread so as a peace offering I offer to bake her a loaf to take away with her. I even told her about the twenty dollars and that I was sorry.
