Gerroa - NSW, Australia

My mathematical conversion skills are pretty pathetic, so when I decide to try to walk the length of '7 Mile Beach' at midnight, I don’t know what I’ve gotten myself into.
With the glow of the lighthouse on the distant cliffs and lines of trees on one side and the ocean on the other, I make my way along white sand; on a mission to reach the end of the beach.
My trusty torch shines a slim circle of light in front of me. I scream at the first sign of movement - a crab as equally startled by my intrusion into it’s domain. It disappears into a hole in the sand and I laugh. My nerves have caught up with me. Maybe it’s time to abandon my foolish mission and head back.
A light bobs in the distance and stops me from my retreat. After watching it for a moment I realise it’s nothing creepy like a specter or Slimer from the Ghostbusters, but a torch. The ray of light multiplies and I realise there are people ahead. I contemplate the intelligence of wandering through the night on a secluded beach. The lights stop moving.
I remind myself of a simple truth: ”Curiousity, killed the cat.” I guess it’s lucky I’m not a cat. I continue on and like a moth, I'm drawn closer to the light.
To my delight I stumble upon a group of fishermen who are preparing to do a spot of night fishing. We greet each other and I find myself in safe company. Apparently, they can get a good catch of prawns out here.
I look in the distance and know I won’t make it to the end of the beach tonight.
Eventually, I call it a night and head back to the warmth of bed and the mission to walk the beach in the morning.
It’s a quiet and beautiful place to get some rest. Just 2hrs out from Sydney and less than 20minutes from Kiama; Gerroa is a great place to spend a short break. There's something calming about it at night and in the day when the sun comes out, a simple glance out the window snatches my breath away.
