Let's get healthier together

About Me
I recently retired from the U.S Postal Service, and instead of "going postal", I thought I would start some blogs to share some of my life experience with others. I look forward to learning together with my readers.

My raw food diet

Raw Pizza
Raw Pizza

When you hear "raw vegan diet", do you imagine a boring and very limited menu?

Here are just a few of the things I eat regularly:

Shakes - pineapple - papaya - coconut - pistachio - cinnamon - chocolate - butter pecan - vanilla - coconut - strawberry

Ice Cream - pistachio - chocolate - butter pecan - vanilla - coconut - strawberry

Cheesecake - chocolate - strawberry - vanilla - raspberry - blackberry

with icing/topping/sauce - chocolate - strawberry - rasperries - blueberries - blackberries - peaches

Pie - chocolate - strawberry - raspberry - peach - lemon - key lime - coconut - pecan - pumpkin - apple

Cookies - apple cinnamon - chocolate chip - ginger snap - apricot cardamom - linzer - cinnamon raisin - macaroons - hazelnut

Sounds like a total junk food diet, doesn't it. But it's not - all of the above are made without sugar, dairy, or flour. The ingredients include dates, nuts, and fruit...very healthy and alive.

Then there the savory meals - remember, no animal or dairy products, no grains or legumes....

Cheeze dip

Burritos

Enchiladas

Pizza

Tacos

Taco salad

Salads

Salsa

Picked jalapenos - carrots - onions - cucumbers - okra

Sauerkraut - kimchee

Spring rolls

Pasta - marinara - alfredo - pesto - pad thai

Lasagna

Barbecue - coconut - cauliflower

Mashed potatoes (made from cauliflower)

Chili

Soup

Tuna salad

Hummus

Falafel

Nut burgers

Bread - pizza - sweet

Pate

Crackers

And that doesn't include all of the many fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts that you can just pick up and eat by themselves.

I don't eat grains or legumes, with the occasional exception of sprouted buckwheat.
Did I mention this is the most delicious food ever?

Claiming ownership

April 18th 2010 20:46
Here's something I consider very important that almost everybody does wrong. How many times have you heard someone talking about "my arthritis, my diabetes, my cancer, my medicine, etc."? If you claim ownership, it's yours. You need to be careful how you refer to things, whether you are speaking to someone else or in your self-talk. You need to detach yourself from disease, rather than embracing it and claiming it as your own. Some alternative ways to refer to things you don't want would be to simply replace "my" with "the, this, or that", with "I'm suffering from" optional or understood. This also applies to bad habits, discipline problems, etc. - anything you don't want to own.

Circular Workout

April 17th 2010 20:12
On the subject of fitness, Storm, of thegardendiet.com advocates a circular workout, based on martial arts principles. The concept behind it being that by working with weights that are less than ten pounds you don't develop a muscle bound body that can't move. By moving in a circle you put the same amount of weight on each muscle for the same amount of time so you don't end up with a body that has some muscles over developed while others get no exercise at all. The body becomes evenly toned. This is huge when you reach the age of forty and over. Because the body starts to breakdown because of the imbalance of the development of different muscle strengths. You become more prone to injuries and stress because the muscles are pulling your body out of alignment and wear out. This is really true of the Back. Everything is tied into the back so when we develop our muscles at different levels of strengths this in turn pulls our spines out of alignment creating all types of back problems. By toning and balancing all of our muscle groups together many people have found relief from chronic pains that have been with them for years.
