Gas Prices
March 30th 2008 16:29
If you thin gas is expensive, try buying a hundred gallons of diesel at a time. If I still owned my own truck, I'd go broke just buying the fuel. That's one of the reasons I sold my old truck and went to work for a big national company. I make the money and don't have to spend it all just to get around.
I keep hearing about how much cheaper it is for trains to get the goods to their destination. And it's true. They can do it cheaper. But they cant get things everywhere they need to go. Not every town has train tracks, do they? You hear alot about trucks not being able to park in some towns, or use the jakes in some places. At least I do. One year my usual parking place was no longer available for me to park and I missed having the 4th of July with my family. Really pissed me off, too. Id like to just refuse to deliver goods to towns that treat truckers like that. It would serve them right.
There are some other drivers who are always talking about shutting down to protest the fuel prices. If it was organized and all the other drivers and companies were onboard, I'd do it, too. Hopefully close to home! But it wont work unless enough trucks shut down to make an impact on the whole country. Maybe after the prices go up another dollar or two..........

A strike would be a wake up call, but only if all the trucks stopped at the same time. You're right to wait and hope it'll happen.
