Foray into Felt

April 4th 2009 09:55
pinky felt

My washing machine has been working overtime since Naughty Agapanthus has taken a new path into felted bags. As chief designer, managing director and CEO of my single employee company, I made a unilateral decision to produce a range of bags for the coming cooler season from the very fashion forward textile - felt.

As most of the drive behind my creations comes from the raw material, I absolutely needed a full spectrum of coloured felt to work with, so many pure wool jumpers have been sacrificed for the cause. After 'boiling the wool' and drying it in our wicked sunshine, I now have a gorgeous stack of coloured cloth to piece together. As you can see by these images, the colours have come together well.

Not only a stylish range, but you will never need to worry if your keys, wallet or makeup are feeling the cold this winter, as these pure wool beauties will keep them toasty warm.

This really is a sneek peek at the range, which I have not released just yet as the final pieces are just being finished off. I will post when it's available. If you want to be the first to be notified, just email judy@madi.id.au
In the meantime, while the wool has been boiling on the inside, the Front Door men have been keeping things neat on the outside.

You could be forgiven for thinking this has become bag blog, but honestly, behind our Front-Door, there certainly has been some serious bag production taking place. My shops have also had a big face lifts, you can see this for yourself here and here.

These girls are constructed from the very lovely Anna Maria Horner fabric, which I'm sure you'll agree is very eye-catching.

Mind you it hasn't all been about bags around here, there has also been some very serious pumpkin development happening in the garden. This has been overseen by the resident Front Door horticulturists as shown

I'll leave you with the following image, so you can have some serious pumpkin envy.

PS The pumpkins are long gone...

Well here they are, the three Poppins bags to accompany the Buckle bags from last post. See, I haven't been sitting around twiddling my thumbs after all.

I love these bags, because they remind me of a scaled down version of Mary Poppins' carpet bag. They really are a large piece of work - and hold tons. I have made them with quite a heavy weight home decorator fabric, as I think it suits their purpose.

And just for the record - I don't have one of these either.......

Fresh Linen

While we were away in Torquay, I discovered this little gem in a lovely bookshop called Book Cellar, where you can browse the books, order a glass of wine and read the daily papers. Of course my experience in the shop didn't quite live up to this blissful scenario, as I had two 10 year old boys and a 3yr old in tow. In reality, it was, quickly scan a shelf, look for an escaping child, flick a book, replace a stack that had been pitched on the floor and quickly make my selection. It was a bit of an impulse buy because of this, but I was pleasantly surprised, when I was able to examine it in greater detail poolside, while all 'enfant' were happily distracted. Reduced from $29.95 to $12.99, this was quite a find. Entitled 'Linen Crafts' by Florence Le Maux, (a book I have never heard of), turned out to be filled with fantastic projects all in linen - of course - 40 to be exact. Here are some images to illustrate what I mean

He Ain't Heavy ...

Having just returned from our seaside vacation, it would be easy to blather on about sun, surf and relaxation because all of these featured largely. However, on reflection, there were much greater and longer lasting treasures of this trip, and one of them was the beautiful bond that exists between my two sons. As I scrolled through a slide show of my holiday snaps, these images jumped out at me

The arrival of Clarice through our front-door, seems to have had a 1930's influence on my work. This vintage tea cloth suddenly came to life as a tote depicting the infamous crinoline lady gathering blooms in her garden - a little like me I guess, except the crinoline is more likely to be dirt streaked denim

You could be forgiven for thinking our garage was a set from Antiques Roadshow this week. As we spent some time sorting and unpacking some of Mr Front-Door's old boxes, treasures in the form of Clarice Cliff were unearthed
