Frog Mystery Solved Again
June 26th 2009 21:38
I know that I wrote about the frog deformities before, but alas that was years ago and I'm not going to look for it. It was determined that some causes were parasites, pollution and UV rays. Still it seemed that something might have been overlooked. Perhaps some natural cause that has been around for many years!
The natural dragonfly's nymph may be the culprit. Even though the nymph's predatory habits may have been determined as the cause, it goes without saying that new theories could pop up again as research is ever changing.
Why did I rule out UV and global warming as a culprit? Reptiles and amphibians can adapt and thermal-regulate to their surroundings. They can basically find warmth and cool spots as they need to regulate their body temperature for digesting food and not overheating. I would have considered pollution or insecticides and maybe even the introduction of a foreign parasite in my own theories.
While we are on a global warming topic, let me repeat what I have stated before. I was aware of the temperature rising back in the 70s and 80s when I saw the Five-lined skink advancing farther north.
