Flashes of memories - MUGABE MUST GO!!! ZIMBABWEANS NEED THEIR HOME BACK

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness - Carl Jung To be at one with God is to be at peace ... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul. - Ralph Waldo Trine

Friends...Orblers...Countrymen...Lend Me Your Ears!

Check out what these people are doing....

Amazing what people can do with a little imagination and some talent! So is this music? Do you like it? Would you listen to it regularly? What sort of music do you like?

Ash,

For the street, it's great, just look at the finger dexterity of the drummer and he's not young but he is thin and very well practised.

Bought myself a piano book the other day. Thus far have 'looked' at it.

It's just a matter of time and inclination, as Big Ben said to the Leaning Tower of Pisa......if you've got the inclination, I've got the time. That should appeal to some of the young and OLD MEN AROUND HERE who fancy their chances.

Oooh, I love them all! Such tranquil sounds... no lyrics to distract. I think the flute player in the second and third videos may have been the same guy... the style is very similar. Yeah, I'd say it's definitely music, and yes, I'd gladly pick up any of the lot on cd to listen to while writing or meditating.

Love the experimentation with common themes that the Sesame St guy does. Definitely onto someth'n. I'd actually call that new millennium hiphop, over most mainstream music.

I hope Trina doesn't mind.

The train station one is Broadway musicals caught in pre-production. The background noise actually added to the overall effect, for me.

Kinda obvious what music influences me...

Its Optotastic!

Ash,

my taste in music is very ecclectic, you know... as the mood strikes me... today it was Simon and Garfunkel, some ambient world-soundz with a german group and album named VARGO (you'd love their sound)... this was followed by the sound track from Love Actually and topped off with some Shakira... as well as some old ballroom during dance practice...

I must admit, that as I grow older, I've developed quite a penchant for world music like these people are producing here... FANTASTIC!!!!!

I WANT A WOK LIKE THAT!

...and that wrap flutist? I wonder if he does parties?

Thanks Ash for these great clips... I love Indian drums as you can imagine and have a few CD's ... I recently scored some great north American tribal drums, rattles and flute music too... lovely for relaxing to... and now I have had the pleasure of these too...

great post!

I love this stuff. My own style is called 'soft sounds', yet I pretty much like all music. Yet another of many expressions of the nature that we are.

Great!

Hiya Mis

I loved some of the English bands....when I lived in Brighton there were some great acts that played down that way..in particular a steel drummer who used to play every Saturday off the cliffs overlooking the sea...was great...and the music stores they have in the Lanes...ahhhh brilliant.

Do you like 'The Streets'? I'm not sure which CD it is of theirs but all the tracks lead into one another and tell the story of his day...thanks for the bands I will have to check some of them out...

Hi katyzzz,

he is really good isn`t he? and to know where to hit it in the right place to get the right sound...brilliant...

All the best with the piano lessons...I had them once, but then had a dislike for the teacher...if I don`t like something I don`t try...needless to say I never got far. I try to play by ear now.

*lol* @ the joke....that`s a good one

Welcome Back Wendi,

They are aren`t they? We used to play mbira's at home which looks like this...the sound is great. I would love to see 'Stomp' - they were out here last year I think and I regrettably missed them...amazing what one can do hey!!

Hiya Opto,

I somehow knew this would appeal to you How are your own recordings going?

The guy with the flute also did some great other pieces..Peter and the Wolf, Inspector Gadget, Mario Brothers....they were great. Beat boxers amaze me anyways - this guy playing the flute and beat boxing at the same time? wow!

Hiya Lilla,

lol that`s what I thought when I saw it...will have to go on the lookout for some Vargo music...I recall a South American band playing once at a mall in South Africa...they were brilliant, I`m sorry I never got one of their CD`s...it is difficult to find World Music isn`t it? South Africa has some great music...Kwaito...it`s the Township music. They are getting ready for the Suncoast Jazz Festival up here soon...I was fortunate enough to catch James Morrison a couple of years ago at the Noosa Jazz Festival, he is brilliant.

Actually I must admit we are pretty lucky with some of the music festivals that we get up here...there is also the Dingo Creek Festival coming up which looks really great. I am still in awe of Woodfood...ahhh bring it on this year

Drums are great...I`m going to go to Jamaica one day just to hear the steel drums and then South America....that and guitars...do you like Santana? wow he is a genius on the guitar isn`t he?

Greetings Deorre,

Yet another of many expressions of the nature that we are.

isn`t it just?

Thanks for your comments everyone. Glad to see some share the interest in this type of music. LOL I showed them to my sister and she looked at me like I had just crawled out of a hole
Hope you have all had a great weekend. Monday tomorrow...siiiiggghhhhh

Ha Ash,

I collected musical instruments from my travels and have an Abira... although I call it a Kalimba and it is not made of the traditional bone, but metal 'keys.' It got knocked about a bit in the move up here to Queensland and is grossly out of tune. I can't find anyone to tune it either... will give it to you to take with you for tuning when you go back..*lol*

Otherwise I was going to add that I adore Santana, although funnily enough only in his later years... not all his earlier stuff resonates... I just love Supernatural and if it was still vinyl, I would've worn it out by now...

Caio for naow...

ps I cried throughout Miss Potter too... and that cottage ? Inspirational... just inspirational... I think I will retire back in my 'homeland.' Did you see the shorts for The Bridge to Tabathia (or something like that)... it looks excellent!

*lol* no worries Lilla you may have to wait a while as I don`t plan on any return trips any time soon...bad energy and stuff...but when I do I will bring you a miniature marimba....ahhhh I belonged to a marimba band at school...they are great! Huge blocks of wood over empty pods...sort of like a xylophone but much bigger... and you play them with two drumsticks that have rubber balls at the end (or disks if you play the smaller marimba`s)...you get a great workout at the same time!

If I could live in England I would...it is the most beautiful place I have been to, I really felt like I was at home there, even more than in Africa....

Santana is incredible.....his fingers just have a mind of their own don`t they? I didn`t see the ad for that movie but I just looked it up on Google....ooooh yes that will be a must see. Pan`s Labyrinth started this week...tried to see it yesterday but they had this crazy $9 special on and there was no ways I was going to bash my way through the crowds to see it...

ciao

Heya Ash. Recordings? Ummmmm....

I'll try the studio again this week. Last time they said they need to work out exactly what I need to pay.

I hope they're feeling friendly.

Thanx for the expression of interest. Hopefully get it done this month.

Have a good dayeee,
Opto

you toooo!!! gee it`s hot up here....can winter just hurry up now please?!?!?!

yeah and then you can let us know where to hear some of your stuff Opto....that would be good......
12. March 11th 2007 @ 00:46. Optomistic Opportunism Says:
Where to hear it?

Dude...

It'll be on my blog.

I handed in some stuff to a DJ for 2SER (UTS's community station) to play. That was 2 years ago now. Not sure if they ever played it.

The DJ owned a record store at the time. He played most of the album right there in the shop. We both agreed it could do with a polish.

Hopefully, I can give you a 'polished' (ie mastered) version.
13. March 11th 2007 @ 01:00. Ash Says:
excellent....drop me a line when you have it done!

Can do.

Lemme guess, your waiting on your stats as well?

I love finding out which countries tapped in over the past 24 hours. There's a somewhat understated thrill to it.

I can never see the videos people load up. My Dial-up access just doesn't allow for it. I need someone to hook me up with the shit (broadband)...

I must make a note to check these out when I have the fast stuff ( shouldn't be long now )..

My favourite band at the moment is My Chemical Romance. How weird - I'm becoming emo. Never thought I'd see the day... By the by, do you consider Simple Plan emo? It's a contentious issue, and I'd argue they're melodramatic rock/punk.

Hey Opto,
Nah just lurking around the house waiting to head out to catch a movie....it`s sooooooooo hot today, I really cannot wait for winter now. Because of travelling I have had summer for two years now and it`s getting to me...bring on the cool weather I say.
To be honest I sometimes don`t check my stats (how do you know what countries have checked your blog btw?) I just blog now for the fun of it really.
Have a groovy day

Hey Anthony,

Yeah these people are really talented...it`s a pity that they sit on the road side gathering coins while rubbish gets blasted over the radios isn`t it?

I quite like that new MCR song....something about a marching band...sorry I`m hopeless when it comes to song names..."When I was a young boy, my father took me into the city to see a marching band..." that one

hhhhmmm Simple Plan emo? I`m not sure really emo...punk...indie...alternat ive ...all just names to me, most of which I don`t get ...they actually also have a song that I like...bugger me if I know what it`s called lol I`m a little hopeless... i relate to colours and sounds not really to titles and letters

thanks for stoppin' by
